Hi, I have been suffering the useual problems with battery drain on my 2003 TD6. It had a new battery last April, quite a high spec one (varta)and for a few months everything was fine. But at about the end of last year the flat battery syndrome started again. I took the vehicle back to the place that supplied the battery and had it tested while fitted on the vehicle. Bearing in mind it had just been driven about four miles the voltage was not high enough for a full test. I was advised to return for a full test later. It was some weeks before I managed to get back to them in the meantime I had changed the final stage resister as many people were suggesting this was the problem although i had NOT had any problems with the heater fans. It had no effect !! After giving the battery a good charge overnight i returned to the battery supplier and the test gave 13.5 volts, a pass, and the load test gave 90% capacity, also a pass although I thought it was a bit on the low side ! the alternator was also tested under full load and was ok. He gave me a print out of the results and said something must be draining the battery. So i left fustrated and continued the search. Again the battery was charged overnight and this time i pulled every fuse out one by one from both boxes but could not find much variation on the meter so i connected the battery back up and spent the next hour fiddling about disconnecting anything I could find, during this time the interior lights were on and remembering the battery had been fully charged i was surprised when it would not turn over again. That was it. it MUST be the battery, so this time I took it back OFF the vehicle and demanded another test. the voltage was 13.5 volts, here we go again I thought but this time the load capacity was 54% DUFF battery again !! It now has a new battery on. I don't think there was or is a problem on my particular td6 just a bad battery or maybe in this instance because of the complex nature of these models a proper land rover battery is really whats needed. Hope i havn't rambled on too much but dont always assume because the battery has been changed it is alright.

Not funny - he is making a very valid point that I'm tired of explaining to people.

You are of course both right.

Never assume a new component is ok
If a component is suspect always try a known unit if possible first.

Eight I'm begining to think there's no point in getting tired of explaining stuff cos there will always be someone new who asks the question.

As someone said on here the other day it's all very well telling folks to search. There are sooo many threads telling people to search that soon all you will find for a page or two is search... search.... search.
