Battery compartment Defender 90

I have my Defender 90 stripped and the seats are out. The battery under the passenger seat was not secured properly. The long thin bolts just loose on the 'floor' and the compartment needs a good clean out. Things may become clearer once cleaned but I cant see how the battery is secured. Cant see what the long bolts are secured to at the base.
Is it the body work floor or could I be missing a frame around the battery?

May sound daft but.... should the battery compartment be water tight or should I be looking to clear any drain holes to allow any water to escape?

There should be a small piece of angle iron with 4 holes in it in the compartment too and when you clean out the box you should see two small holes each side of the battery. The bolts hook into these holes then place the angle iron over the corner of the battery and bring the other end of the bolts through the angle iron then tighten it down. The battery needs to breathe so dont compleatly seal the box.

water tight??? its a landie lol. i have sealed all my joints with silicone and i still get water in,......but not as much as before... battery should be ok as long as it has breather pipe fitted,.... you could extend this if you like into the cab and fully seal battery box but most are starting to rot away.....not sure of condition of yours but i ended up replacing full seatbox.....should only be about 70 quid for a 90 one brand new on ebay

The seat box is solid.. just filthy with 15 years of crap a few inches deep. I will make sure the battery can get air... thank you
