Battery 110 TD CSW

Hi all

I think I have killed my battery. In order to check I fully charged it
over a period of 24 hours then left it disconnected for 48 hours.

Having just reconnected it on the Landy, it has not enough power to
engage and turn the starter.

Two questions...

Can I now be sure that it is the battery itself that is dead and not
just a leak /. short somewhere?

What battery would you all recommend (on a budget). I am running on a
70A alternator and the only accessories I have are spotlights (x4).

Hope you can advise!

Hi Chris,

not sure about the proving that your current battery is ok or not, but I can
tell you that I recently bought a battery through these chaps

www.tayna.co.uk

and it was delivered no probs

Take it to a Battery supplier and get them to drop test it, basically test
it whilst under a dead short.

They will also advise on replacement but cheap is not always a good option,
consider how long you want it to last for your hard earned and then look at
the replacement warantee (sp?) such as 2 ,3 ,4 years... some will replace it
as long as you keep the car so it's worth ringing around.

Here we tend to know all about deep cycle stuff for winhing and alike but
seeing as your not doing that then it would be pointless recommendiong
batteries that we know and love...and usually cost an arm and a leg.

You won't go far wrong with suppliers to the farming industry either as all
farmer (real ones) are on a tight budget too.

Should the battery check out OK - or even before - ensure that all
earth and starter connections are good clean and tight.

If you haven't got access to proper test equipment then remove your battery
and try it on your friends Landrover which normally starts alright.

The battery earth lead can be a problem on 90s & 110s, fasten it to the
gearbox instead of the body mounting.

Very impressed with the Battery Graham got me at the April
unnofficial, £35 IIRC for a huge battery, above the spec I needed.

ROT13 me....

Well there we go, it WAS the battery. Ireckon I killed it when my
alternator packed up and I carried on charging it all the time then not
doing any decent journeys.

I got a heavy duty Oldham battery (maybe an Optima when less broke!)
for £48+Vat at the motor factors here in the village, as I couldn't
drive anywhere else of course!

Stared like a dream and seems to be holding charge nicely.

Thanks for your help folks, this group is fantastic - what a community.

Chris

And I moved the earth strap to th egearbox too, so thanks for that tip.
By the way, excuse typo above...even my Landy can't actually 'stare'.
