hi all i bought a series 3 last week and got her home with no major problems. she sat on drive till now waiting to be taxed. after getting the insurance covernote today i went ahead and taxed her losing nearly a months worth.
tried start her and nothing all the lights seem to work o.k and the stereo so tried rocking her in case starter motor was stuck. no joy so tried to jump start her all be it off a 1.1 (misses car) still no joy is it likely there was still not enough power in battery or will it be the starter motor and is there any other way of moving the starter motor
she was last started last wednesday but only for a couple of minutes any help would be appreciated as i am soooooooo fed up

does it make a clicking noise when you turn the key or does it turn over really slow if its been standing around give the earth stap a good wire brush were it bolts to the chassis give us some more clues what engine has it got diesel or petrol

have you checked the voltage in the battery or tried charging it up? The Mrs car probably doesn't have the amperage to turn it over, I have seen jump packs struggle with landys. You want a decent 90-130 Ah battery to crank one over nicely. Well that works for mine anyway :)

Stokes a bit far or I'd bring a charged one over!

thanks for the advice but its now running after repeatedly hitting starter motor. well chuffed to be up and running, fingers crossed everything will be o.k now and i can start restoring her to her former glory:):):)

if in doubt hit it harder!! i find taking the battery leads off when not using a landy for a while helps, think there must be seepage through the old switches, also i usually remove them from vehicle and store them in a shed but thats more of an anti gipo tactic....

also also i've found the ignition switch on me older series 2a is a bit fooked in that when you hold it on to turn the engine over you have to release it and allow it to turn back for the engine to fire up, flattened a battery before i figured that one!!

might be worth pulling starter out and putting a bit of grease on the bendix if it"s a bit prone to sticking

It sounds like a classic starter solenoid problem, greasing the bendix wont help, unless it’s a one off or loose battery wires or wires on the starter it will happen again.
