Basic Service: FL MK1 (TD4 ES: 2002)

OK Chaps. I had THE major service (at 30K miles but it was the biggest service they did) at a dealer 12 months ago. BUt the FL has only done 4000 miles since then.

So, I am going DIY it this time. (A Service isover 400 quid!!!)

I just wanted to know what is involved.

Is it the basic:

Oil (If so, what oil? How many litres?)
Filters (Air/Oil)
Top Up / Change Clutch & Brake Fluid
Brake Pads

I just did all 4 tyres.

Or am I better off going to A.N.Other Garage?

Download 'RAVE'. Print off appropriate service schedule re the mileage covered since last service. Study the list of things to do, if you're not confident about carrying out the schedule then ask local small garage for a quote.

Ace RAVE manuals.
Love it.
However, I cannot find the section for Sump Capacity....
Can someone tell me please.

Looking at the Service Schedule, I get most of it... just a few Q's..

1. "Renew Air Cleaner Element" What the frick is that?
2. "Poly V Belt" I take it this is the Driving Belt as seen under the bonnet!
3. What is the "Anti-Seizure" compound, and do I "REALLY" need to put it on the wheels?
4. "Road Wheel Speed Sensor" Where is it?

Air cleaner filters dirt and dust out of the air before it is sucked into your engine. (Long paper filter)

Poly V belt should be ok at that mileage.

Anti seizure compound - something like copaslip. I use comma copaslip. Simply remove each wheel and put a small smear either on the back of the wheel (where the 5 studs go through) or wher ethe 5 studs are on the brake disc - dont forget the 2" rim that surrounds the driveshaft nut. This stops your alloy wheels from getting stuck on the steel hubs.

Dont get any on the brake disc where the brake pads meet the disc as this will impair braking.

Road wheel sensor is at the back of the hub - look for a rubber plug with a lead going to it. I have never looked at mine in nearly 2 years of ownership. If it aint broke.....

The terms are a little different to that of my 50 year old Healey!

"Air Cleaner Element" = "Air Filter" I am such a spanner!

I got some CopaSLip, I use it on Bike Exhausts!
