Basic Series Toolkit

Hi everyone,
Still haven't found the right landy yet unfortunetly.
But was wondering what tools are needed for working on one.
I have a decent load of kit but don't know how usefull most of it'll be. (mostly metric gear so am slightly afraid of rounding off nuts and striping treads etc)

So please tell me what a basic series toolkit should contain.

(ps I have an ample supply of brute force and ignorance)

Whitworth and AF spanners and sockets.

You will find a mixture of both.

Mostly AF. but as Andy says, the odd Whitworth to catch you out. you will often find previous owners will have used a lot of metric as well. Invest in the right spanners, it is false economy to try and manage with ones that nearly fit.

A basic crimp terminal kit and some lenths of wire, comes in handy for all the toasted wires. And gallons of WD-40!

3 large adjustable spanners
wheel kit(jack etc )
lump hammer
scaffold tube
3 socket sets (one of each type)
3 spanner sets(open end ring,metric,imperial and whitworth if ya can find em)
screw drivers
Test meter
black paint(to coverup car park incidentals!)
gaffer tape
chain
general tools etc..
Rubber gloves...

A bucket of WD40

Insulation tape : red blue black

landrovers OWN socket set (currently 35 quid down from 85 quid at most landie dealers)
(a very nice set for novices like me)

A big Hammer is vital.

I still have the weird jack that came supplied. it works, but I also have a 3 ton trolley jack & toolbox on board most of the time.

Tyre Iron & scaff pole.

Small compressor (lighter socket powered) for flat tyres.

Pimms Stools (fold up 1 legged chairs)

Torch

Wallet & phone

AA, RAC or Greenflag card.

The honesty is frightning

I assume the scaffold pole is as a breaker bar? (although i am quite short)
What sizes will I need in imperial and whitwworth spanners/sockets?
I have alot of metric tools since my BMW E30 project.
Although I imagine that the british engineering will be more consistant with my Irish "Speak softly and carry a big stick" attitude.

I already have a big hammer.............
But reading the some of the posts on the site I might need to buy bigger just in case

Oh & how could I forget..A decent poncho or Army Basher DPM. So when your underneath and its ****ing down you wont get ****tingwell drenched.

Whta about a welder?

• All the obvious stuff.
• A socket for hub locknuts - can't remember the size, but it's big.
• 4 or 5" Angle grinder.
• A set of feeler guages.
• Multimeter.

More advanced stuff

• Tin snips
• A mig welder (min 150 amp).
• Engine hoist

.. and a credit card.. with a big limit
