Bang from underneath

HI all a clue to this would help
Freelander2 07 auto yesterday whilst slowing down for junction not braking big bang from underneath had to carry on thru junction the got out and checked tyres all OK carried on with journey no prob running as normal speed ok no steering problems when home dropped undertray had a good look no oil leaks nothing out of the ordinary used the car again today no issues drives as normal any idea what caused the bang all help gratefully recieved thanks

Something in the road struck the car?

When the spline tube between the gearbox and PTU fails, it can make a decent bang, almost like a shudder through the vehicle.

If it were between gearbox and PTU would that not kill drive? Like the splines feeding the IRD on an F1.

Something from the PTU 'onwards' might go and not be noticeable as it would just mean 2WD.

Probably as Dan says, just (something like) an e-scooterist bouncing up off the road surface and banging under the car though.

Hopefully for the OP it's something flicked up from the road, although to hear it in the vehicle, you'd definitely see it on the road.

If the PTU splines fail (which is very common) then only the drive to the rear is lost. Sometimes the splines jump for some time before finally giving up the ghost. This jumping can sound like someone hitting the underside of the vehicle with a sledgehammer. Once the splines can no longer transfer any drive, then it just turns into a FWD Freelander.

Glad you've found it. It's best to replace them in pairs, and if it's done more than 100k miles, it's probably sensible to replace the shocks too, as it's virtually guaranteed that a shock will fail weeks after replacing the springs.

Electric delivery bike without lights on. Wasn't there a hint of pizzas in the air.
