Hello all,i posted the other day about an almighty bang at the rear when my car changes gear,1st i was told it was the bushes, which were replaced with new ones, but same noise again, then i was told gearbox oil was low, which was replaced to,i asked the garage about the UJ's,but looked at me blank, now after spending over 1k,ive been told it could be my gearbox, which theyve quoted me 4.5k,but i wont find out until i give them the car for 5hrs at £135 PER HOUR +VAT,any ideas would be welcome.

giving your car to the garage will cost you a fortune, is what we all would've said before you spent the money.

Use the search section above and do some research.

It really could be one of a few things, read up.

Look, I think all that read this will tell you to cease dealings with this garage ,which at £135 + an hour must be a main dealer ....
You haven't listed where you are on your details but surely even if you're in the middle of the Kalahari there must be some other mechanically minded person ,family member or garage who will be able to investigate and diagnose the problem on your car .
It's not a complex machine so anyone with a modicum of mechanical awareness, which there are many of out there , will at least be able to point you in the correct direction.
Seek another opinion..........please !

It's not an M -Class starfreighter you know, if you've a rudementary knowledge of mechanics some stuff you can do yourself!
Get a Haynes manual download RAVE and post what you're gonna do afore you do it, just in case.

Tell us a bit more about this so we can see if we can help.
I haven't read your original post least ways not tonight and I'm too tired but you say the bang comes from the rear ? LOUD bang or soft thud ,auto or manual, going up the box and /or comming down , does it happen on harsh acceleration only or every time you accelerate ,did all three garages "look at you blankly " when you mentioned u/j's , have you tried it with the prop off ,what's your clutch operation like and where is the take up ..........? give us a bit more to go on.
