Hi guys, I got a disco 1 6 months ago from poland, as a mission to restore it. I drove from poland to Holland w no problem, then got a 73 caravan and drive thru germany, austria Italy to greece with a 1000 lbs caravan to take a covid year break didn't have problems at all.

My wife want it to surprise me and had a service done in a shady mechanic, supposely change oils, filters, brakes, leaks and adjust the hand brake and car don't transfer power[GALLERY=][GALLERY=][/GALLERY][/GALLERY] , I went to another mechanic to check new pads were not tight but they are OK tires move in the air.

He told me that clutch need to be changed. My question is if the mechanic can **** the clutch on a rutunaty mantainance.
And if it's something to check or try to fix before having to change the clutch.
 
Did he replace the fluid for the clutch, and fail to bleed it properly ? But that wouldnt cause a clutch to slip... After towing a van around for miles, you have probably worn out the clutch.
 
When you say the 'tyres move in the air', is that all four wheels off the ground and driven, or just that they turn by hand?
The transfer box lever hasn't slipped into neutral, has it?
 
Im assuming he means spinning freely if jacked up, ie not binding on the brakes...

Tilly2 it's rigth and turned by hand.
I had 2nd and 3rd opinion same diagnosis.
I will change it, what's the best option I been checking the paddock spears page. And I am thinking if it's smart to rebuilt the gearbox at once. Problem with 1st going to 2 and 3rd to 2nd Ashcroft said that its a classic problem the thrust washer brakes and crests the problem
 
Depends on how much money you want the throw at it... You can stick in a good second hand gearbox if you can get one cheap.. Thats what Im doing, but fitting a second hand good DMF, and new LUK clutch and plate...
 
Yes I think I it's a safe play with the Ashcroft rather than reconstruction in grecce, and get clutch special for towing.
 
If you can source parts locally I would go that way...UK delivery to EU now expensive and delays due to customs...I'm in Portugal but thankfully dont need parts ordered to be fitted to get going as is a restoration...good luck...
