Dear All
A couple of problems which is driving me mad.

I have started to get a lot more misfire at the moment I have reset the points but still goes on.

In addition when I come to a stop the engine will cut out even when warm.
When started again it will start and run on tickover all day long. It only when I take my foot off and slow down. Its a Zenith carb.

Are the problems related ??

Other than that the engine starts well runs strong.

Thanks in advance.

Tony

Check the carb float level isn't LOW, and the main jet isn't partly blocked, and the slow running jet screw isn't too far in.

If you recently removed the air cleaner that too will make it run lean.

LEAN mixture it sounds like to me.

Make sure the valve clearances are OK while you are there, as a tight inlet clearance can cause backfiring into the inlet manifold.

Also check the inlet fanimold bolts are tight, and the carb mount bolts, air entering the sytem downstream of the carb can do that (making it lean as allready said).

Thanks for the advice.
I stripped the carb down this morning and double checked everything and the manifold.

I also changed back to the old jet and did a visual check on the bore size and the jet which came with the refurb kit looked bigger.

Put it all back together with old jet and it ticks over well when you come to a stop and the backfire has all but gone away. ( I even had it between gear changes ).

The only thing I noticed the top speed has reduced slightly compared to with the oversize ?? jet.

Thanks Again.

Next job to refurb the axles & diffs.

Thanks again Tony
