I have a '99 1.8FL. Every once in a while I'll come back to it only to find the rear window has wound itself right down.

Now I know if you disconnect then reconnect the battery it does this but this can happen if its been parked outside the house overnight, so no mechanicking going on.

It's more of a nuisance than a worry as car crime is very low around our neck of the woods, but I do sometimes leave chainsaws and other expensive bits and pieces in the back and wouldn't want to tempt someone too far. Also I'd rather not come out to find the back full of water after a storm.

Anyone know if this is a known fault or indicative of the imminent failure of some ridiculously expensive part?

i bet yu is keeping yo keys in ya pocket.......... if yu hold down the key, the rear window drops and the car unlocks. try putting them somewhere safe overnite - bet it stops.:D

mine used to do that when i left my key fob in my pocket and inadvertently held
the unlock button down. this causes the window to open for some god forsaken
reason,
also if it's a 3 door then i've read on here it could be the micro switch that detects if the roof has been removed.

It is only being playful..

It wants you to play with it..

You have to sit behind the freelander and every time it open the back window you have throw something in..

Its only looking for a bit of attention...

Dont hurt its poor feelings..

Go on......

(an ideal thing to toss into the back would be a petrol bomb)

So where do you live again ;)

It was one of the selling points of the FL1, hold the unlock button for 3 secs and the window drops, supposed to be handy if your hands are full and need to drop your groceries in the boot.

Only thing is if your hands are full how do you get your keys out of your pocket.

The rear tailgate was nearly a no-goer, LR techs couldnt get the drop right at first, a discovery was used as a Mule for the rear door design

i wouldn't have called an sneaky auto opening window a unique selling point, more of a liability if owt else. and as you pointed out as if getting keys out of you pocket wasn't bad enough how can you drop shopping through a hard load cover.
they didn't think this through did they, not really.

Nothing about the Hippoo has been thought about or designed. It was cobbled together by an apprentice on his first Monday whilst still supporting a hoomungious headache from the w/e!

I'd keep that info to yourself.

telling people there gaylander technology came from a maestro won't fill them with confidence. not one bit.

in fact i'm starting to feel a bit down about it now. thanks mate i really wanted to know that.

i can feel myself welling up a bit here.

Back in 2001, when my Td4 was still young and beautiful:D , this also happened a couple of times to me. Coming out of the house I foun d the backwindow down, both times unfortunately after a rainy night, with, my luck, the wind blowing from ahead so no huge amounts of water in the boot. As my keyes remained on a shelf in the living room none touched them at night, went to the garage and they said there was a technical bulletin about that, so they replaced the car's ECU and did the necessary reprogramming, including the reprogramming of both keyfobs. Since then no more problems with it. Good luck.

Hi mine used to do that and it all seemed to work. Forget the key in the pocket idea as I never left my key fob in my pocket once indoors. Sorry to bear bad news its a sign that the regulator cable is on its way out. My one finally snapped and the window then dropped into the door. The regulator is a common fault with the older freelanders. It will cost £300 to get a new one fitted by a LR Dealer. Maybe cheaper at a non dealer garage. Dont forget that your insurance wont cover you if the window lets itself down. Hope this helps
