back door on freelander will not open

i have a 1999 2.0 ltr XEDi however i can not get the backdoor to open the window will not come down and neither the washer or wiper will work and when i try to lock the car on the fob and manually the horn beeps like it does when a door is not shut properly. i have checked the fuses but there does not seem to be a problem. i have a young baby and cant get the pushchair out of the boot at the moment so any help would be greatly appreciated many thanks

not a fix , but if you disconnect the battery the window will open.

Try using the key in the rear door lock and the glass should drop, if i remember right ? the info for recallibrating the back glass is on here
somewhere.
Then when the doors open you might want to operate the switch on the rhs a few times

whats the weather like where you are, is the mechanism frozen?

i have tried using the key in the lock but nothing happens. the weather at the moment is not below freezing and i dont think the mechanism is frozen but will try again during the day tomorrow, if i disconnect the battery and then reconnect will i be able to shut the window again? thanks for your help

yes but you will more than likeley need to recalibrate it.

i have just been out to it again and when i try the rear window swith i can hear a faint clicking could this be the motor on the window is not working? will try disconnecting the battery shortly

if the fuses are ok then it could be a faulty motor, or a faulty relay.

if you disconnect the battery and let the window lower, then reconnect the battery, and if the window raises using the switch then you will know that the motor and relay are ok and that the switch is faulty. just a thought.

if the motor is knackered it probably won't raise once lowered , so if you don't have a garage i'd probably wait.

The rear door on the freelander 1 is ridiculously stupid and overly complicated. Because of this, it is often inoperable after a cold spell! (due to frost/ice)

Good job they didn't sell many of them in the likes of Canada or Russia!

been out disconnected the battery and re connected it and it worked!! it all works fine now so no idea what it was thanks for your help saved me a few quid in labour charges

if in doubt ask the tratter boys they are experts at entering back doors

Bear in mind when using the back door handle that the mechanism opens slightly and only allows fully open when window drops. So the door will be partially open hence the 'beep' you were getting. Nudge it closed with your backside
