Baby seats in the load area

The only reason a lock and load is approved as child seat safe is because it doesnt fold in an impact.
Minibus seats are approved for child seats, otherwise they wouldn't be fitted in child carrying minibuses.
They have integrated belts, the seat backs are stronger than the front seats, if you ever remove a front seat look how small the securing bolts are for the seat rails.
You can attach a rear seat securely, in fact i have attached the seats more securely than other rear seats i have had in the past. If you buy a rear seat for your landy whether bench or whatever you get a few small bolts. If you attach your seats with large bolts and spreader plates then it will be more secure than standard fitments!
If you buy some rear folding forward facing seats they are deemed safe, you ask exmoor why you can't use a child seat with them it's only because the seat could fold. The lock and load just purely locks so it shouldn't happen.
So what's the problem with fitting an approved car/minibus seat, in the same position as a foldup forward facing seat, with stronger fitments?
Looking at it from the other angle, the seats in a minibus are either slotted into rails or bolted to the floor, so i can't see whats any different adapting this to a landy?
Don't get me wrong defenderdavie, i would have loved some lock and loads, but we just haven't got that kind of money, and i don't feel i have compromised any safety and anyone who has seen them would agree.

What you can do is use Unwin tracking , Its what they use for minibuses, ambulances, aircraft. The company is down in Devon . (google)_
One of my vehicles is an LDV hitop ex wheelchair minibus . I bought it as it has a very handy taillift (for loading engines etc. ) I have modded it so that I can have a choice of 11 seater minibus or van . so I needed a couple of bits of tracking and some more seat mountings , they are easy to fit, and you can get snap in load securing rings as well.
It takes about 45 seconds to fit or remove the seat, and they have integral lap and diagonal seatbelts as well .
The two seater seats fit between the wheelboxes in a landy a treat 32'' wide and 42'' tall from floor to top of headrest . HTSH
There are usually plenty for sale on ebay around the £30 mark:)

Davie sod the respray just buy a few good quality brushes and rollers and paint it yer self. if you prep it properly. It'll look as good as a spray job.

If you have young kids they should ALL have proper seats. If ya have a 90 sell it and get a 110 csw job done. Wonder how insurance companys look on these bodged seats?? And why put your childs life in any kind of danger. As said in a differentthread you will never forgive yourself if the seat fails in a crash.

I don't think Davie having just spent £900 quid for a pair of exmoor trim child seat approved seats, would agree with your point of view. There are plenty of ways to fit secure and safe seats to a 90. without having to resorting to selling it and replacing it with a 110 CSW.

Its just my view red, I have 3 young kids and know how I would feel if owt happened to any of them. Plus if you put seats in back of a 88" or 902 there is no space left for yor **** :D

As for the bodged seat I mean the mini bus and transit ones.

And I agree with you 100% about the safety aspect. But as long as the seats you fit are strong enough and the fittings are secure (anything is possible with a Welder & Drill) then there is no reason not to carry your kids in the back of a 90. even if the little buggers take up all the space. :D

Fixing to the chassis even better red :D, wouldn't like to weld owt to the tub, don't think it would take it :D

Well obviously not to the tub. though the crossrails are probably as strong as the floor of a eurobox car which is all the seatbelts are mounted usually. No I was thinking of an additional cross member (5mm channel or similar) with the mounting taken off those.

ive got a 110 h,top at the mo and im fitting rear windows an seats so i can take the kids about in it on camping trips etc:D
im not fitting my 900 quid seats myself the garage where i get my motors mot,d is fitting them for me:D at a small fee:mad:
mot tester rekons the lock and loads are actually safer than fixed seats in csw:D in event of a smash as they reackon the safest place fer kids in csw or a people carrier is in the rear loadspace:confused:

i have a 2002 defender 90 at the minute which is a company car fitted with these seats by land rover as an optional extra when it was bought

id like to find out the EN or kite mark nos rquired fer these types o seats so you could compare

ps red had to work today going to strip those landys 2moro

ffs £495 for a seat, lock and load my @rse! What were they made for, space exploration?
I bet they were tested by the same comb overs in white coats that said a 7 seater 110 is classed as a minibus and max tow wght is 750kg, yeah right

bottom line fer me is
wife sees sticker on seat that says kiddie approve wife is happy :D kids aree safe my life is peaceful
still reckon price is a rip of but what else do you do:confused:
wife insits kids gotta be in seats eben though i rekon me van vault would be safer fer them

Some pics, sorry it's dark, the carpet hides the wheelarch edges etc so have highlighted them.
