hi help battery keeps draining it takes about 5 days and the dash tells me alarms trigged can any one help

Main battery drain is probably wireless doorbells/Wi-fi in the area waking up your BECM every 5 minutes draining the charge.

Alarms set becasue they presume someone is tampering with the cars electrics.

Key battery low means the watch style battery needs replacing, do ASAP as if it runs out you have to EKA your way in.

Search on here for battery drain to look for more advice.

Your vehicle is fitted with original RF receiver part number ARF1953 and that has now been the problem for so many P38 owners and is the ultimate culprit in most cases if not all.

You need to go to an official dealer and buy part number YWY500170. The RF receiver does not have part numbers on it, therefore the only way to ensure you get the right RF receiver is to buy it from an official dealer.

Its a £55K car, and you fix it by pulling wires and disconnecting the aerial?

Just have the official fix and pay some money.....I bet you all buy retread tyres too!

Erm, it WAS a £55k car - most of them are £2-£3k cars now ! :)
Nowt wrong with cheap,quick fixes as long as they don't compromise safety
and no, I don't buy retread tyres and never have done :p
 
No need to get shirty just cos someone disagrees with you! just saying wot worked for me, and if you payed 55k for yours the salesman must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Hardly, but just because a car depreciates in value its still a £55K car with parts a service to match.

If you wanted a cheap car to run, just buy a Ford Mondeo or a Focus.

Others also have ripped out the Air suspension beucase they are too tight to spend £1000 on getting it repaired.

Don't like those costs? Sell it and buy a cheaper car. The parts for range Rover be it a P38 or L322 or any Land Rover for that matter will always be expensive.

I dont think £140 for the new RF receiver is breaking the bank. But obviously some of you do.

I've never heard such a load of pish in my life !
Let me get this right, because the P38 was an expensive car to buy when new then It has to be an expensive car to run ? - what's the point of all these DIY forums then, I'll just take it to a main dealer instead of trying to sort it myself :rolleyes:

Yes, I have ripped out my air suspension (not that it is any of your business) - this decision was not cost driven, I was fed up chasing leaks/faults and now have a car that I can jump into without any worry
I have driven Land Rover products for over 20 years now and have never owned any other make in that time so why would I want to buy a Ford ??? :mad:
You are obviously not a proper Landy owner or you wouldn't have such a big issue about people fixing their motors on the cheap :rolleyes:
And by the way, parts for all Land Rovers are not expensive and if you don't mind getting your hands dirty they can be quite cheap cars to run

Try it one day................................................

Thats the complete opposite to what I'm saying!

I'm saying, if it needs fixing, pay the money and fix it!

Ripping out the Air Suspension just because your sick and tired of finding and fixing the problems yourself is hardly a good reason to do so! If you can fix it yourself, great!, if you cant and dont have the expetise in certain areas then pay up to somone who CAN fix it.

Buying a £140 RF receiver and fitting it so your car works as it should is hardly hard and if people continue to advise people this bad advice, its not surprising then its hard to find a good working P38 on the 2nd hand market.

This forum is not JUST for people to fix things themselves, it can also advise members of issues garages continue to miss.

This thread is a good example of that. The original member now knows what the issue is. They can now do one of two things, pay up and fix it for good or do a DIY jobby and have to go up the the back window and hope to god they can unlock the car.

Whats worth peice of mind? A reliable car maybe?

Also my comments werent aimed at anyone specific.....it was a general statement.

I am not going to enter into another coils-v- air debate, each have their own merits - suffice to say I am more than happy with my coil conversion, as you are with yours which is fine by me
Be awfully boring if we were all the same eh ! ;)
 
Hang on a minute. Let's get a few things straight here.

1st a P38 hasn't been a £55k car since 5 minutes after it left the forecourt. Just driving a brand new one off the forecourt Knocked £5k off it's value. and they've been depreciating ever since.

2nd It doesn't matter how much a fix costs or whether you replace all the parts with Genuine Parts and only have the work done at an approved stealership. Or if you buy all your parts from Paddocks and only use ****part. As long as you are happy with the repair, and the vehicle is safe to be on the road.

3rd No one has the right to dictate to someone or slag them off because they don't approve of the methods they use to keep their vehicle on the road (Gaylanders excepted.)

4th If you want to preserve the future of the P38 as some sort of classic car, then buy a fooking aircraft hanger and start buying em up before they've all fallen apart.

5th It's a British car made in Britain. Which means it was made badly to ****e tolerences using the cheapest methods possible and the workers who built em didn't give a **** how they left the factory. Consequently they are going to breakdown and wearout. and need constant fettling to keep them running, and Unless you're (A) Stupid, (B) very rich or (C) an anorak. You'll do whatever is needed in the most efficient way that your wallet will allow.

So chill out and stop been a twot..
