Just a question about the new style axle stands..(I say new,I have never used them)

was looking at these on a well known auction site Silverline 3 Tonne Axle Stand Set | eBay

& I need to use them under the chassis not axles,my concern is that the tops don't look wide enough to sit the chassis on...being as wide as a tank track.

any of you guys used these type on the chassis..?

& secondly..having only used the old type smaller tri leg stands usually with small hatchbacks & such....how best to match vehicle weight to axle stand limit..?...concerns me a bit more with 2+ ton of Landy.

the clue is in the name, they are axle stands not chassis stands. can you not get some bits of wood that will fill the gap to give you a flat surface to sit the chassis on.

As you have said ,A stand with a wide enough head for the chassis to sit in are far safer for a chassis

have you looked for chassis stands instead of axle stands

I've got a pair of the 6 tonne ones and the defender rails fit in them. *just*

So do these. And they have a safety locking pin.

In the interests of the OP's query, they still don't look like they'll do as chassis stands.

meh, you'd be pretty unlucky to accidently lift the handle up. could tie a rope to it if you really cared :D

i have the same sort of thing for my disco and once the weights on there is no way you can release the ratchet unless you are the incredible hulk.

A foot of sawn off scaffold plank between the axle stand and the chassis is a good idea, prevents slipping and damage to paint on chassis.

I use a piece of 4 x 3 right across if I'm working underneath, feels safer:)
