Hi folks,
I got some great info from @yessi today regarding my "Lemon" err... I mean current P38.
I have often thought that I was sold a "bitser" because after purchase I discovered the engine serial did not match the V5, and I could see signs of some re-build work on the car. All the paid for checks on the vehicle history had come back clean however.
Surprisingly, the JLR build info supplied today has the Engine Serial Number that matches the car and it is the V5 that is therefore incorrect.
I would like to check the Axle serial numbers too (as they are quoted in the build info). As I don't really want to spend a long time crawling around on my back under the car, can anyone give location info for where the serial numbers are stamped on the axles?
Adding to my suspicions of "bitser" is the fact that the build doc says the rad grille should be the body-colour and not the grey/brown plastic, and the evidence of sheared wiring on the N/S headlamp wash/wipe power cable. Looking at the front leg of the N/S chassis rail it has a strange diagonal weld line that is not present on the OS leg. It drives fine and looks fine, but you know how nagging doubts do eat away at you. ;)

Think the axle numbers will just be standard axle numbers and not exclusive to your car.

@wammers Thanks for this, I wasn't sure as the doc had a serial number column 95L25763A on the build document for the front Axle, but as you say, they may mean type not a serial number.
It is remarkably clean under there too, doesn't look its 18+ years of age at all. Paper sticker is still on the Axle-casing, but unreadable. Sump is clean as a whistle as is the Gearbox.
I guess this must mean there is no oil in the engine or box ;)

The info for my Vogue was quite telling!

Apparently it was sold with a LR factory option of a Warn winch!

And side steps plus a bullbar and spot lights.

Fook knows what happened to 'em! as they're all MIA i do however have the brackets and winch plate plus the old bumper so eh but never knew what they were for!!

Now i know!!

Wouldn't mind finding a factory winch.
