I've had success with these on rounded bolts - similar idea to what someone suggested earlier about hammering a socket on, difference is though that these actually tighten and bite into the bolt head as you loosen, so as long as you can get enough leverage they should undo the bolt or snap it

They remain one of my favourite tools!

I use them at work all the time, but they wont work unless op cuts the head of the bolts off and then uses the removal tools on the remainder of the bolt.
I bought the snap on ones then found irwin done them, bugger!
They do swell out and break after being hit with a hammer multiple times:D

Are they bihex bots? OP said he was using a 14mm socket, so I thought he might be able to get away with a 14mm Irwin.

Regardless, they are a great gadget to have - even if the don't work on this occasion. Recommended to me by oldseadog.

crap bolts that corrode as bad as the rest of the landy... took some shifting but once out you could refit with 12.9 BZP sockets .... bzp wont corrode much, 12.9 is as per original spec and you will not round a 12.9 m10/m12 socket cap... the allen key will die first :)

oooo they're smart. I've just picked up bog standard replacements tonight! :(
However, when I financially recover from the rebuild I might swap them for some of those. Great pics!

tbh find a local bolt supplier n walk in with cash.... I pay pennies for em.. no receipt cash sale job... as an idea 200 bzp 12,9 m8's ... £8 for cash :)

Name dropper!! :D:D

However, I have also invested in a couple of BiHex sockets - 13mm for the brake calipers and 14mm for the discs.

As a matter of habit I always change the bolts. Be careful though as set screws are not bolts!

The shanks or 'shoulders' on bolts take up any movement on a solid bar, whereas the threads take it up on a setscrew, effectively reducing an M10 to under 8mm effective diameter!

Think about it!

You know it makes sense! ;););)

As soon as as I see a cap head bolt on a truck I have got to take to pieces I cringe as its always hassle, but then so are them stupid male torx headed bolts!
You will be surprised how few people know the difference between bolts and set screws.

Credit where it's due! I was just going to be changing the pads - I was assuming I can leave the caliper and disc bolts alone. Presuambly you just mean replace the bolts if you are replacing the discs/calipers or have I got it wrong?

If I take a bolt out I generally replace it with a new one.

There is no need to touch any bolts to change over the pads ... however I would always change the pins and springs :D

Yeah, I've got that kit on order. Just hope I've got the right pads and kit as mine is a bit of a funny one with it being ex-mod.

I keep trying to tell everyone in this area that your best Landy friends are Cheviot 4x4 on the trading estate just this side of the tunnel.

Ken and Dave will not mess you about or overcharge, and they are extremely helpful

I do support my local indi and I have used Cheviot before and will probably use them again, but they are not that local to me. By the time I get out of work, I would be travelling in rush hour and it's a fair journey in heavy traffic.

I have a decent place in the same town as me which are very helpful and any work I can't or won't do myself will be going in their direction, if at all possible. Spanner Monkeys

I also like to support and use online retailers - many of these are also small family run businesses who have been innovative and adapted their business models to ensure survival. In this case, I ordered online as I was doing most of my reading on an evening and wanted to get my orders in, hoping the kit will arrive for the weekend.

So basically, I'm a bit of a parts whore :D
