Axle bump stop

Excuse my ignorance, but my air suspension collapsed today. I know how to sort that, but one of the rubber bump stops that stops the axle hitting the bottom of the chassis/frame fell off. It's clearly rusted away and the pressure must have just loosened it. My question is - how important is this bit, and how do I fit a new one? I can't weld for toffee!!!

Ditto, I'm missing both rears, only noticed when I changed the Springs and Shocks last week, but they look like they've been missing for years..

Its not an mot testable item,so if its missing it will still past the mot.
Very cheap to buy and easily bolted on.
I would fit a new pair as they save the axle smashing in to the chassis.

Having done some googling I have to agree with you, but I am sure an MOT tester has failed mine in the past because of a missing bump stop...may be I remembered wrongly

VOSA has to change the MOT rules for testers because there are so many complaints of testers failing cars on items which pass VOSA's rules.
The reason is because the man testing your car does not have to be a mechanic or have any common sense or even know much about cars.
There for quite a few MOT testers are f**king idiots.

Thanks all. I seem to have a smooth plate underneath. Do I need to drill to bolt it on?

Should be some bolt holes to fix to.

So a question on this.

How important are they? Consensus seems to be that they are not required for an MOT, but if they were both missing, would you replace them?

If you put your Disco into a specialist for a condition report / assessment, would you expect them to at least report that they were missing?

I would expect him to report it and I replaced mine when they were missing. They protect the axle/chassis when they meet each other, so they are quite important
