I've just put some Avon Rangemasters on my 110 after running some Disco size things on Disco steel wheels - theses are a bit smaller than the 110 7.50 x r16's

I put a Disco transfer box in and was struggling to get used to the change in gearing. The gearing seems much better now.

But, whereas the steering was fine it now seems more vague and I ended up on the wrong side of the white line a couple of times. It seems slower driving is in order on bouncy tarmac surfaces.

Is something wrong? They are not new tyres. Will balance affect this? They seem fine in a straight line and no wobbling at speed.

could have nothing to do with your new updates, just a thought, turn your steering wheel left to right while looking at your front wheels. If there is access movement on the steering wheel and no movement in the wheels you may have a issue with your steering box...may need adjusting/bleeding or a refurb. This can cause rauge steering and drifting.

big differance in the sidewall construction betwen the 2 makes of tyres, the disco tyres will only be a 2 or 3 ply sidewall wheras the 750x16's will be maybe 6 or 8. So the tyre will be a lot stiffer on the road and will follow any contour.

that was my thought. think they are 8 or 10 ply though so super stiff. have you checked tyre pressures? what are you running them at? get them balanced to.

I will have them balanced as soon as I get the chance.
They are running at 28psi... apparently this is correct.

The steering box should be fine - it was with the previous tyres and wheels combination. I will test some more and bear in mind the stiff side wall issue.

500 miles round Manchester this week!

OK my o/s/f brake bound on whilst on the motorway at 40mph. This will probably explain the occasional pull to the right.

The pads are crumbling, the cylinders are past their best.
Wallet time, wheel balance, then try driving fast in a straight line again...

good to see ya believe in regular checks and maintenance. refurb callipers yaself just get noo seals and pistons and replace the old ones.

er but since when were brakes safety critical ;)

I got a price £47+ per caliper. I also got a price of £90ish+
I wonder if the cheaper one lacks pistons and seals so that when I say what the fork am I supposed to do with this he tells me he hasn't got pistons and seals - best check

So are the calipers likely to be refurbishable? Is there a possibility they'll be too rusty or will a light waft with some 600grit paper do?

if you haven't repaced seals/pistons before in a caliper best buy the refurbed ones - least they are cleaned and re pistoned by somebody that should know what they are doing. Replace both fronts so to have balanced braking and fit some decent brake pads.
