Right then.... not being much of an electrician, but always willing to have a go at something new, I've decided it's time to add some additional lights to Gerty (1975 88" diesel series 3)... nothing too modern, but something to add a bit to the current headlights when out and about.

Anyway, I've added another battery and a split charge system and my idea is to run all auxiliary equipment off the 2nd battery (thus keeping original wiring intact and maintaining main battery for starting and original electrical systems.

I've done a bit of reading about relays, and as I understand it the circuit that activates the relay switch uses very little power and is completely separate from the power source to the lights that it will be operating. Therefore, I am planning to take a feed to the relay from my existing main beam circuit (main battery), but power the new lights with a feed through the relay from the auxiliary battery.....Is there any reason why this would not work... not be safe... or indeed anything else that would make this a bad idea???????

Thanks in advance for your help

You're definitely on the right track here. There's some diagrams in the forum somewhere with all the standard automotive relay connections and wiring on it.

Cheers Guys....just seemed a little bit too simple and sensible to be true - full steam ahead with the electrickery then!!! :)
