Hey guys. Been trying to fit my new aux drive belt onto my Disco. I bought one from the local land rover breakers tim fry. Anyway cut a long story short the one they supplied me with is a ****part one. It doesn't matter what i do the bugger just won't squeeze over the pullys. The Disco i've got is a non power steering non ACE model. I even bought the ACE model belt to see what the difference is and its too big. Anyone had the issue before or is it just me? Would it be worth trying another belt manufacturer?

If its the same as defender td5 you need to put spanner on belt tensioner pull spanner to release tension put belt on let off tension, if someone can help so much the better

Unlikely the belt size would vary that much between makers, has your tensioner partially seized so it can't open fully.this happened on mine a few weeks ago.
please don't take this the wrong way but are you putting it around pulley's the correct way.

It could be i guess although with the tensioner fully retracted there is almost a dead straight line between the bottom of the Crank pulley and the Alternator without the tensioner touching it at all. I thought i had the belt routed wrongly initially so i checked the Haynes manual and my Neighbors TD5 for the correct routing.

You could take your tensioner off hold the back it in a vice and see if you can free it a bit more using some wd40. if you try this use a single hex socket took me ages to get off could'nt understand why . the fixing bolt has got a strange shape head that a double hex won't fit. think its either 13 or 14mm

No idea mate. Reason I know this is because I had the same problems getting mine off. You can get a decent set of TORX sockets at Halfrauds and they come with a lifetime garantee just in case you break them. I'd stay away from the cheapo ones on fleabay as they seem to be made of pot metal.

Well i got the little bugger off. Tried it in a vice and it appears to be working perfectly. I decided to order a Genuine land rover belt off the net to see if its a different length.

Finally sorted the Problem with my Disco. Really dunno whats going on with it. The book says i need a 7PK1716 Belt as standard. Turned out i needed a PK71760. That fitted a treat. If anyone needs a Aux Drive belt on the seriously cheap i have two of the not AC not ACE belts and one with Non AC but with ACE.
