Automatic to manual

I suppose much will depend on whether your converting a V6 petrol or Td4 diesel. I would imagine you would also need a new ECU or at least a reprogram of the existing one along with a flywheel, pedal box & all the bits that connect it to the clutch.
Then you'll need to inform your insurance company of the modification you've made so they can charge you extra on your premium.
If it's a Td4, then maybe best to sell the auto which should be worth a little more than a manual & buy a manual model.
If it's a V6 then good luck with your project.

O yes! I forgot about the extra pedal and all its bits and bobs, Hmmmm its starting to look like more trouble than its worth.

Are the auto`s reliable in the freelander? Is it just another expensive thing to go wrong.

yes they is good. . . . .

Why on earth would you want to do that?

The Auto is good, and I'll bet the conversion would cost a lot more than the car is worth

gearbox
pedals lever and console
bellhousing
flywheel
clutch
clutch hydraulics
different IRD
ECU
bunch of wiring
etc. etc.

Listen to your Emperor Ming, he knows his stuff.
My auto is very good, though they like their fluid changed regularly, the quoted 60,000 miles is a bit too stretched 40,000 would be better. Also it's best done by a garage using only the correct fluid as either overfilling or underfilling isn't good news.
I set out to buy an auto & found it to be more expensive & less common than the manual ones though it has been worth every penny.

I'm similar to skinny mike but a couple of mpg better off on runs & around town. I've got the egr bypass & roverron synergy fitted along with permanent use of Millers diesel additive which explains the better mpg.

Nope, goes up
. . . . .Sorry but yer wrong, all auto [gearboxes] will decrease in mpg / compared to a manuel on the same set up [fact] however if a say Rover Ron set up or even a engine re tune is incorperated with the said td4 then very good mpg can be got and sometimes better than a manuel set up [fact] :):):) good innit

Er No....

An Auto uses more fuel than a manual - the "consumption" goes up (miles travelled per gallon is less)

TD4 Manual 35mpg
TD4 Auto 30mpg

so the "consumption" is higher for the auto, as per his question

Fitting a Synergy etc on both will improve the figures for both

wot i sed didle eye :) :) :) ;)

When the auto eventually fails - as will any mechanical device, it will be expensive.
Depending on your driving style you will possibly have used 3 clutches (in the same 150k mileage) on a manual at £500 each incliding labour. Dealer wanted £1k a pop.

Towing and/or heavy offroading can VERY quickly wear out the clutch, the slave/master cylinders have also been known to fail.
I am biased - first Freelander needed a clutch at 13k and 26k - the last (not LR) lasted until I sold the car at 90k. The next Freelander had an auto box, this gave no issues all the time I had it, 60K miles.

don't forget that expensive dual mass flywheel on the manuals. Also I don't think manual boxes are that cheap either to replace.
