Automatic Selector

2001.DHSE

I can select every position fine, 1&2.is stiff, but suspect they have never been used.

The problem is that when the car is in Park, the Reverse icon lights on the selector occasionally and the lights jump back and forth (between Park and Reverse), the mirror tilts go up and down. So I am forced to put the selector in Neutral to stop this and when I start the car.

Is this a simple fix?

Sounds like the cable may need adjusting, this can be a fiddly job to get it just so.

As the cable is stiff, more likely it needs lubrication, like a bicycle brake cable the inner seizes to the outer, plenty of oil and keep working it and it may free off.

Thanks both. What is the best way to access the cable? From inside above or underneath?

Not easy either way, taking the centre console out is not a 5 minute job, I'd try from underneath first.
