Hi,

Seen various threads on this non of which answer my questions.

I have a 95 300tdi auto disco, the cooler pipes from the auto box started to leak a couple of weeks ago, so I ordered some new pipes, the steel unions into the ally cooler at the front were mega tight, and after trying everything I cold think of and a big tug on the spanner the cooler sheared beyond repair.

I have done the usual Internet and eBay searches and rung some landy contacts I have made over the years and have been told several different things and supposed ways around this.

1. Spanking new cooler £100+ from most retailers sites. Or a second hand cooler which seem to be like hens teeth.
2. Do away with the cooler all together and just get a piece of pipe from mend a hose or pirtek, to infill where the cooler once was.
3. The hedgehog type RR classic cooler is the same, there are plenty of these knocking about 2nd hand for between 30-50 pounds.

Can any body help me decide which is the best way forwards and confirm if the hedgehog type RR cooler is the same in terms of fixing points and union sizes?

Has any body bypassed an auto cooler before?

Any help or other ideas would be great.

Thanks

you cant do away with the cooler unlike a manual box where heats is created through friction losses etc torque converter actually changes some of the power to heat ,the earlier coolers use taper flare fittings,i dont think they made o ring type iirc
