Hi
I have a series 3 fitted with automatic free-wheeling hubs.

I was told by a dealer that these were so reliable and expesive that they
stopped making them, is this true?
Can anyone tell me more about them?

many thanks in advance

If I remember right, these were available for Series I's,
but they don't work when reversing, so for most purposes
they were pretty useless. They may well be of interest
to a collector though!

Do they look like this?

http://www.cbmsys.co.uk/photo/cars/fronthubs.jpg

Cos if they do, I've got two sets myself, and absolutly no information
at all. I can't find out who made them or anything, as there are no
identifying marks, and nobody I've spoken to seems to have the
faintest idea about them.

However, I find them to be very good, and the internals are very
simple design, yet sturdy. Certainly saves having to get out and lock
them if you've forgotten. If you're worried about how they come
apart, I could photograph my other set, which are not attached to a
car at the moment.

Yes they do look very much like the ones i got, the other photo would help
greatly.

As for reversing with the hubs I have had no problems and work just fine
forwards or backwards.

This is the original Mayflower Automotive Products auto hub - sister of
the manual one that had the wheel-nut sized bolt head to operate it.

I've got a leaflet which I'll Acrobat and send to you.
