Auto Transmission problem

I have a td4 2l d m 47 engine, my problem is like this. It’s an automatic gearbox so it select P.R.N.D.124 but when I’m on D the car doesn’t shift gear up or down even if I try to use + and - it still won’t. It show an error code F4 on the dashboard.

Sometimes if I start it while in P it won’t pick R until I switch the car off and start it while in N.

What could be the problem.

It could be anything. The gearbox sounds like it's in safe mode. It needs proper diagnosis with a code reader and possibly resistance measurements on the control solenoids.
