Auto not changing up

Recently the auto box on my diesel has needed lots of revving to get it to change up through the gears, something like 3k rpm+ to get it into third.

Once the engine is warmed up though the problem goes away and it drives fine for the rest of the day, including starting/stopping.

Searching around it looks like it may be general wear & tear on the autobox and a dose of Lucas Transmission fix is the best option.

But the fact that it seems related to engine temp made me wonder if it could be anything else?

One possibly related item, on a recent long run the engine was completely gutless and lacking power. Turned out the pipe running from the inter-cooler to the boost pressure sensor had come off, put it back on and all fixed. Not sure if this relevant to the gear change issue at all.

Have you checked the oil level? When was the oil and filter last changed? Should be done every 24k miles.
Otherwise check the transfer box ECU under the passenger seat for signs/smells of burning.

You'd be better changing your filter and adding some new fluid whilst you're doing it. A blocked filter and knackered fluid COULD give you your symptoms.
However these boxes are running close to their limits and, if you don't find a blocked filter, I'd start assuming that you're going to need a refurb at some foreseeable time down the road.

I changed the oil and filter, along with all the other fluids, when I acquired it last year, done under 5K miles since then.

Fluid level is fine.

Burning ECU, don't like the sound of that! I'll go for a spin and give it a sniff!

No need to go for a spin and it's the transfer box ECU not the auto box ECU. First step is to check if the shift motor is seized.

Sticky valve block can cause that stick it on diag if no faults try a bottle of Lucas.
