Auto Gearbox Service

Just had R/R/S 2010 auto box flushed and changed to new metal pan. £522 all in including double flush because of all the crap inside. Car was running Ok but saying it is 10 year old in January thought I better get it done. AGS in Holystone, Newcastle upon Tyne did the job and they say if you leave it the 10 years recommended by Land rover you are asking for trouble. They are a ZF approved garage and only do gearboxes.

Look in the Tech sexshun in the RR subforum i've done a rightup on the ZF6hp26 service.

I will dumb it down.

Oil change every 60k
Only use lifegard 6
Don't flush it or do i don't care, can't be bothered to argue etc etc

Have the adaptions reset while you're there if they can.

Buy the ZF kit off off ebay £280 IIRC

The thing is if you flush you get the extra 3 litres in so the best possible solution to the job.

Theoretically a drain from the sump removes 40-60% depending.

A flush removes 90% usually but you have to pump £400 worth of fluid through it and if its at 70-100k there is absolutely no point.

And if it's high mileage disgusting fluid then its another reason not to do it, as the clutch material suspended in the old oil is usually what helps the ****ed gearbox engage and not slip, so just a drain and refil is recommended for a neglected high miler.

Not to mention the crap that gets stick in the valvebody etc.

You should be very wary of resetting the adaptions when you change the fluid. If you have solenoid issues (unfortunately very common on the 6HP26) this could result in you trashing the transmission. Land Rover specifically instruct their workshops not to do this. The adaptions should only be reset if the solenoids or mechatronic unit are replaced or following a firmware update.

Hi Phil

Noted that a while back that adaptions shouldn’t be reset at the same time as an oil change unless as u say firmware update etc

Know when I picked ur brains before and thks again for the fantastic help

Personally never been keen on powerflushing gearboxes , prefer to just drop the oil and refill
