Checked / changed my gearbox oil yesterday.
First time in my ownership. Intention was to change oil. Run for a week or so and then rechange with filter.

First job was a bit alarming due to lack of oil. No wonder the transmission heat light came up when on salisbury plain a couple of weeks ago. About 1 litre came out.
Top up with about 4 litres , then ran the engine worked it through gears and then retopped with 4 litres.

Light had not been on befor. Could not see any obvious leaks . There was no obvious oil around the oil cooler when i removed and refitted rad intercooler etc recently.

I will be watching very carefully and rechecking. Fingers crossed.

Yeah not good, when I did mine (oil temp light was on as well but that was a faulty sensor in the cooler) I got about 5 litres out.
When you do the filter just be carful refitting it as the o-ring is easily cut on the sharp tin pressing.

Found where the oil was going.
Think its time to replace filter and gasket. Not like this befor so must have been leaking for a while. Then got to a natural level below gasket. Then been at a low level for a long while. Hope mating services and bolts ok. Will probably get new bolts and castleated clamps to be sure.

Finally got round to changing filter, gasket and AtF oil. Work got in the way.
Found who ever had been there befor myself had managed to snap one bolt and U clamp missing. Also one other had one of the upstands on the clamp broken off so was not holding the sump and gasket tight up agains the mating face.
Ordered new clamps and managed to drill a hole for locating bolt. Fortunately it was in a position where a new hole could be drilled.
Sump in place awaiting clamps to arrive. But working again. Not sure they will turn up for bank holiday weekend so will be another week.

Best of luck with all this. When I did my filter I found one broken clamp which I fixed with JB Weld.
It is amazing how well it will run despite being short on oil!

New clamps arrived and finally managed to finish off the oil and filter change to the gearbox. Only took 4 weeks what with work and snapped bolts and broken clips by someone who had been there befor.
