Auto Gear Problems

Hi All,

I know all of you are busy doing lots and lots during this strange time???????
Help is needed!

My Gearbox has stopped working?? No Forward or Reverse have called a couple garages to ask for help and advise! and was quoted 2000 pound + to get it fixed one garage was a Auto Specialist! one was Land Rover Dealer (Parts/Service and Repair) which is out of the question at the moment!!

Have had a look around the web! and have seen some starting from cheap to not so cheap.

So i'm looking towards the Landyzone membership for help and advise, as i know there are many guys and gals on here that are in the know!!

Looking for Auto Gearboxs for my sick Discovery TD5 (21years old?) no looking for scrap/MoT failures (at the Mo!) as histories of the vehicles can be a bit hit and miss!?1

Not that I can see! Have a couple of weeks to look as I'm one of the lucky ones when it comes to work! I have some ATF oil ready but may have to get more!

Do you get the indications on the odometer and on console display when you select gears ?

Yes the two came on M &S flashing

I asked about the gear selection indications(odometer and centre console) not about warning lights... though if the M+S lights are on the fault code which is stored will reveal the issue

Yes the red light was flashing on the centre console! D only and just M & S nothing on the odometer!!

Then you put the problem the wrong way cos you dont need a gearbox, it's probably the XYZ switch or the harness to it... or in the worst case the BCU

Could even be the clip on the side of the gearbox which holds the gear selector cable has broken. Happened to me...

I will have a look at all advise before I do anything, as I'm sure we are all in the same boat! Out and about! Working and money???

XYZ switch can be taken apart, cleaned up then put back together again with nuts and bolts. If it turns out to be that.

Had the same issue with mine. Changed the XYZ switch and everything was back to normal.

Thanks guys, will have a long look at the weekend weather permitting!!
