Morning all.

Have just bought a 1995 3-door Discovery 1 which has had the stereo removed by the previous owner.

I am very new to Land Rovers and fairly non-mechanical  so am after some wise advice.

Do I need a certain type of replacement unit or will anything fit if I have a template or similar?

Many thanks indeed.

Hi
If you have two rectangular connectors then a replacement will simply plug in

I got a defender one from e bay, and simply plugged it in, although i had to buy an adaptor for the aerial plug, which was £1.99

If the previous owner used an aftermarket stereo(which is a very common reason of there being no stereo when you buy it) It should be fairly easy.

Mine Came without a stereo and I just went out and bought one and fitted it right in and it worked. but thats because the previous owner of mine had altered the wiring loom.

You may have to buy a harness adapter if your previous owner had not altered it. The discovery harness is here: Harness Adaptor PC2-14-4 from Halfords Price £12.99

My advice would just be to buy a stereo and plug it in with its own adapter and see if it works... then if it doesnt... buy one of them harness adaptors from above.. then it Will work if it didnt previously

Many thanks as always for your advice - sorry haven't thanked you both earlier but have been away for the weekend.

I'm sure the guy that sold it to me said that he'd had a Sony one in there so he's probably already put in some sort of adaptor. I'll take the plunge and see how we get on.

:D
