Is this anything to worry about or does anyone know what this is.

I have found the following when starting the engine.

Option 1 -
Allowing for the coil light to go out and perhaps waiting longer than necessary (putting belt on, telling the kids to be quiet etc) leaving just the battery and oil light on on the display then turn the key to start. The engine starts no problem but I get 3 quick tones but no warning lights on the dash.

Option 2 -
If I just start the engine after the coil light has gone out, then she starts and there is no audible sound.

Would anyone have an idea what might be happening with option 1. I guess she wouldn't make a noise unless she is trying to tell me something. What might cause the tone if the engine isn't started straight away?

Thanks, Matt

If the tones are like a gong it is normal something to do with it resetting itself. Have a look in the hand book it is explained there. Hope this helps...Tony

Hmmm just started mine up and the sound could be more of a chime than a gong but who cares as long as its a nice sound. It makes the sound as the engine starts up but I have known in the past where it has not made the sound for a while...Tony

The only time 3 audible chimes are mentioned in the user manual is when there is a fault with the ABS system. However it states in "Warning Lights" that this warning light will be on when the chimes are made. (all I get is the three chimes and only if I wait for all the lights to go out before starting the engine)

All I get is the chimes and only when I take time in starting the engine. If I turn the engine as soon as the coil light goes out there are no chimes.

I have looked at resetting as Tony S suggests but I cannot find anything on this.

Can anyone esle replicate this or know what it may be.

Regards, Matt

It is normal, mine does it also. If the ignition is left on long enough for most of the lights to extinguish there are 3 chimes / gongs which means everything has been self tested and is ok. Alternatively if the car is started before the dash lights have gone out then not all of the systems have been checked so no chimes. If after starting you get the same chimes along with the ABS warning light then it is a fault.
Hope this helps
Mark
