Just a warning to keep your eyes open for the two scrotes in the pictures attached.

Just after 11pm on the 15th of October someone tried to steal my 110 by shoving a screwdriver in the drivers side door barrel. The barrel broke leaving most of it in the lock and stopping them getting in. (Barrels had been changed to the later post 2002 longer barrels which I believe confused them).

About half an hour later they came back with a mate for another go and 10 minutes later again they walked past it without stopping.

They arrived in a Citroen Berlingo van and as well as the visits on foot they drove past the 110 at least 9 times that night.

After failing to steal the 110 they stole a Daihatsu Sportrak which unknown to them had a failed clutch so they ended up dumping that in the next side road along.

A compilation of some of the interesting cctv footage is here CCTV of attempted Defender theft 15/10/13 around 11pm - YouTube

It's already been posted on Landywatch by some kind soul.

Yeah, I'm hoping they can catch them. They have more information than normal to go on so fingers crossed or next time I might not still have the 110.

Can I ask what stopped them from nicking it?

Mostly incompetence, they were unable to defeat a Defender door lock, albeit they were the newer 10 wafer barrels compared to the old 5 wafer barrel that should be in a 110 of that age. They used a screwdriver to try and open the lock but the end of the barrel just fell off and left them locked out.

I'm fairly certain they didn't notice the pedal lock and gear lock that are also fitted.

Yep, Police have a copy of the cctv and they have the recovered Daihatsu (stolen after failing to get the 110) at their pound after it was dumped in the next road ...... doesn't look like they were wearing gloves in the video :) So there is a chance they may get caught.

Is this your own CCTV or part of the local councils network.

anyway hope they catch the scum and put them away

They're my own cameras and I point one of them at my car wherever I park it along the road. I did check with the police before I put it up and they were happy enough. They have been around several times asking for footage of other things that have happened in the area.

I hope they catch the scum as well, I'm not too much out of pocket but my friend who owned the Daihatsu has ended up with it being written off due to the damage they did when they broke into it.

I'm doing my best to get the faces of these two spread to as many people as I can, regardless of whether the police get them for this if a lot of 4x4 owners are aware of these two then it can't be a bad thing. Feel free to share pictures and links anywhere you like.

Check out the gypo camps nearby, they seem to be using citroen berlingo vans a lot up and down the country, I'll bet you spot the van!:)

Yer right. It was incompetence. If ya know how to do it the newer locks take no longer than the older locks to get around. Average time for me to unlock a push button defender with keys locked in is 10 secs.
