Hi all, been doing some work on my series 3 which has a toyota turbo diesel in it and had to take off the exaust pipe from the turbo flange.It has a 3 bolt flange.Now question is I have it all back together but wasnt sure if there should be a sealant or gasket on that joint, Had that exhaust newly fitted about 3 months ago and when i took it apart just seemed a very small amount of a material like a worn elastic band??but no gasket .
so I put it back without anything but on, starting up got lots of smoke at the begining but think it has stopped(it was night) i have a removable gearbox tunnel lid and that was up- should i reassmble and put anything on that exhaust joint
