No sooner had I go the landy back from having a replacement compressor when the very next time I went to start it - click - mutter under breath - click - swear - click - swear some more - click - blue air - vroom!

It took several click to start each time that day but then yesterday refused to start at all. The guy who put the compressor on came out as we thought it might just be a loose wire but he thinks the starter motor has died - a couple of time it nearly started but not quite - battery is ok & he checked & cleaned the connections to the starter motor, we rocked it and he tapped it but nada. He didn't think it was just the soleniod.

It is still under the 3 month warranty it came with from the garage which amazingly does have the starter motor listed as one of about 3 things that are covered.

My question is that given there is a £500 claim limit should I go for an genuine landrover starter or not. Any recommendations as to where to get one from would be appreciated.

I really can't believe I have had so many problems within 6 weeks of purchase & less than 1000 miles. I love it to drive but am almost scared to get in it & find another problem.:(

Oh it's a Discover 2 2000 if that is any help.

Do a search for "starter solenoid" its been covered many times.
Typical fault with series 2 disco's ;)

He didn't think it was the solenoid & given that it is covered by warranty I'd rather replace the whole lot.

Need advice on what to go for - from Paddocks the aftermarket one is £95 with a 2 yr warranry & the Denso is £155 with 1 yr warranty. Genuine landrover one is £363. All + VAT.

Any other places that are good for parts?

me I would go for the Paddocks one as the warranty is longer. As your vehicle warranty is only 3 months any parts you get fitted now I would try and get decent quality with a long warranty then you are covered even when your 3 month policy runs out

Any idea how long a garage would take to fit - am thinking that with getting it to a garage approx £50, 363 + VAT £436 it doesn't leave anything for labour.

Are the Denso ones better than Britpart - although Denso one only has 1 yr warranty.

You might have to get the garage that gave you the warranty to do the work so that they honour the warranty.
Landrovers can be quite expensive things to maintain/fix if you are no good with a set of spanners

It's an RAC warranty so can have it locally - I want to learn how to do things - just might need some help along the way.

There a a few local guys who are v reasonable - when it's going I love driving it.

I'd like to have a play off road at some point although might ask if I can tag along first.

Who told you your warrenty had a 500 quid limit if its from a garage then it comes with a 3 months full warrenty by law

It is a 3 month RAC warranty which has the £500 limit.

When I had the initial problem with fuel pressure regulator leaking the garage refused to pay for the repair.

As there has been so many faults I have written to the garage to ask for payment of the repairs as I don't consider that they have complied with the sale of goods act which must be "fit for purpose" and satisfactory quality".

I'm waiting for a reply - if anyone has any advise on how to proceed I'd be gratefull

If you put your location in your details there might be someone local who could give you some pointers

I would give a hand but other than Boxing day I don't get a day off until the 7th.

I do have a starter motor contacts rebuild kit here as I think mine might be having issues. But it could also be earth wire for me so got that covered as well. Starter rebuild can wait for lighter evenings and warmer times.
