Hi Guys,

I have just bought another 1996 HSE with 39K on the clock today to help a mates mate out (P38 No.3). I got a local Range Rover Specialist to look over it in detail for me and, because it could do with new EAS Air Springs all round, could do with a new EAS compressor and as the owner hates haggling......2 against 1.... lol :D, we managed to get it £2,250. The specialist and I both agreed that as the rest of the car is pretty much immaculate I wouldnt have gone wrong at up to £3,500 so i'm grins all round !!!

The reason for my post is that i need a few bits and wanted to see if any of you guys have experience of -:: P38 Spares - Land Rover and P38 and Range Rover parts, EAS air suspension airbags and diagnostic kickers and faultmate MSV::- and the Arnott bits they do such as the "Generation III Arnott Air Spring Set" (£425.00)(Lifetime Guarantee !!!!????). I'm also looking at the "New Range Rover P38 1994-2002 EAS Air compressor Pump" (£240.00)

Your suggestions and thoughts are appreciated

Hi lucky you,
P38 spares have been good when I have used them as it's a small concern.

Have you tried Island4x4 on ebay as they are also very good and have a special for £250 (Dunlop) Super fast delivery the last time I ordered from them

What is wrong with the pump? as spares are available for them.

Fred

She's in for an 'accurate to do list' at 8am tommorrow although, as i said above, the guy that looked over it isn't anticipating anything to major. I will ask him as part of this to do list, which i have also includes suggestions for premptive work, to let me know his thoughts on the pump and come back to you.

Thanks for your response )

May I suggest you get yourself an EAS lead and software to check for faults and reset them.

Approx £30 for full usb2 set

I had looked into these briefly, and please forgive me if this is a silly question, but whats the difference between these EAS diagnostic kits and the more expensive EAS Kicker type systems. I know that any faults must be dealt with before reset but as both diagnose and allow reset functionality.....? Does one give more detailed info ??

Thanks redranger.

I'm about to buy the Arnott suspension but wanted to know if anyone is running these. They offer a MkII and Mark III derivative, of which i think i will go with the latter, but in addition to the lifetime guarantee !!!!, and slightly higher price, the only performance difference i can see is a slightly higher 'high' and slightly lower 'low' discussed.

Any opinions or experience of these would be appreciated before i part with my cash

Are P38 spares members as i cant seem to contact them by phone....?

With the £ to $ ratio at the moment Arnott Industries ship worldwide and quote the exact same numbers in dollars!

Gen III Front Springs $399.00 Pair
Gen III Rear Springs $425.00 Pair

With a 1 to 2 ratio they would have to charge £360 or so for shipping, not very likely:D.

Just hope you haven't bought them yet or can return them!

Thanks adam and no, i havent bought them yet as 'p38 spares' are awaiting stock at present.

I have a few US based suppliers to my business so may investigate bringing them in with some orders i am placing shortly.

Thanks for the heads up and i will post thoughts and feedback once fitted.

:D

As per the posts above i am now considering purchasing my Arnott MkIII suspension and a few other items directly from the states.

For those who don't know me I work as a Freelance Electronics Specialist, I provide to a variety of clientèle, bespoke smart home solutions as well as commercial and marine fits.

I directly represent a lot of US based manufacturers and over the years have developed strong relationships with many of them. One, as of today, has said he is quite happy to receive my order and, in order to reduce freight costs, ship together with one of my next 'client' orders so, if anyone else is interested in getting any bits and playing the US/GBP rate please let me know and we can work out how to make this work for you as well.

I hope this is of interest

I have used Island 4x4 air springs - no problems. Last time I bought them there was a deal on 4 springs. Don't forget the clips - if they are corroded in you will destroy them getting them out.
If the pump runs ok simply replace the piston and cylinder assembly - not hard to do on a P38.

Hello again Arch

Sorry about the miss info I thought more people would be interested , would jump if I had the money to hand but ..... never mind other things to worry about like the HEVAC system.

Cheers

I had Arnott Gen II springs fitted and the compressor piston and seal kit fitted earlier this year and would recommend them both. Going from standard fit (Dunlop) springs to the Arnott was a huge difference, when I collected teh vehicle from the garage, it felt as though all the bushes had been replaced at the same time, the ride was sure footed and felt firmer.

Hi guys.
New, totally non-technical poster, so please take the following with all the pinches of salt it rightly deserves.

I picked up my 98 P38 yesterday having had the Gen 3 springs fitted. I am frankly speechless at the difference.

Main points:
Feels a little firmer in "Urban" mode.
Rides higher in raised mode.

But heres the biggy. The difference in "Highway Mode" is staggering. I used to dread that "first roundabout off the motorway". (You know, the one where your wing mirror touches the road).
After I picked the Rover up yesterday I drove from Coleford to Chepstow. Some nice, fast, twisty roads with a few hard bends. In Motorway Mode she was absolutely brilliant and I was really able to get a move on. I have never driven this car quickly before.
When I got to Chepstow i had to stop to get some gas. The car smelt like I had cooked the brakes, i really had driven it hard....
The journey from Chepstow to Swindon down the M4 revealed a slightly harsher ride (not unpleasantly so) much much better control and less wallowing. The steering was more direct and gave better feel...

I'm aware that bollocking a P38 down twisty roads is not a particularly objective road test, and not what the vehicle was designed for, but the point is I would not have even attempted the journey swiftly with the old springs....

So, quite simply, one of best 400 quids I have ever spent, (including a foggy 36 hours in Hamburg...).

I bought from P38 spares btw. Took about 10 days to get from the States, but they were pretty good with their communication...

Isn't 39k a bit early to need all these suspension parts (even for EAS!), surely they should last longer than that ?

but surely do these gen 3 bags not need additional setup on the EAS CPU ?

Thinking of upgrading mine as they get such a good review but surely not just a swap and forget, and if so how or where do you get the job done ?

Do Arnott do a fitment and config service ?
