Hi. You may remember my threads about my TD5 defender with manky coolant and heating not working. but heres an update. I have no hot air through the blowers. temp gauge just below half. So i took off the hoses into the heater matrix, with engine running and no coolant comes out... put a hose on the end and it flows through clean. Done the same with all other pipes in cooling system and no blocks. The hose coming from engine block to radiator with the bleed hose to heater matrix is hot but no coolant flowing. Am i right in thinking that the power steering pump is with the water pump. my power steering is fine and my engine isn't over heating so not my water pump? Me and all my mates are stumped... Can anyone help? Im getting really ****ed off by this!
:(

Take off lower water pump hose and stick your finger in, engine off obviously, see if you can turn/feel the impeller, if it spins then replacement pump time, have you checked thermostat? I will have to go read your other thread on your first problem

Had a butchers at your other thread, are you still experiencing pressurised header tank? And getting water in the cab?, reason I ask is the aforementioned disco has a broken water pump which obviously with the coolant sensor being at the top of the engine did not pick up that it was overly hot and burst The heater matrix?? Then cooked the engine, all in one 12 mile trip last year when It was snowing heavily..........

that doesnt sound good! Header tank not pressurised, much less water in cab, little condensation in morning but its a landy, and my temp gauge is acting as expected going to just beneath halfway.

Sounds like the water pump impeller has self destruct, I've had this twice, once on a golf gti turbo and on a Rangerover p38 diesel. The motor probably won't overheat whilst driving normally but if you drive it hard then it will. As said above, take the hose nearest to the water pump off and stick you finger in there whilst turning the pump by hand or take the pump off and have a look. If the impeller has come apart (most factory fit originals are plastic nowadays) then make sure that you get all of the broken bits out of the block, I took the hses off last time I did this and shoved a hose pipe into the block where the water pump goes. You will probably find that an aftermarket pump has a brass or aluminium impeller which are much more reliable.

ok what kind of price should i be lookingat for a half decent one. iv seen some for £30 but seams a lil cheap...

Hi again. I have checked my water pump and all is good. but today have found a leak. Please take a look at the below image and tell me what you think.

I found a leak at the bleed valve (2) and the hose (1) is collapsed slightly. Im thinking that as its collapsed and leaking there then maybe the flow is unable to go to the heater matrix through hose 3 and 4 as these are cold. I have flushed through the hoses and i have a new one in the post. but im sorta pulling at strings as im getting pretty fedup of being cold now :(

cheers guys!

I may be wrong here but either that is the top hose from a discovery or whoever fitted that top hos has twisted it when putting it on. I'm pretty sure it's the one from a disco though. Did the vehicle overheat just prior to that piccy being taken?

yea. it looks like the large hose has been cut short and stretched. im thinking it had a split or something...

the end that goes into the block on the left is jagged and badly cut.

They do tend to go pop if overpressurised so it may well be the case.

If you pop down to Christian Auto's on Hanham road in Kingswood they usually have the top hoses in stock for around £25-£30. Keep your old one as an emergency spare. How long have you had your landy for? Has it been overheated?

yea i got mine for £25. Iv had the landy about 2 months. never had heating. done 3000 miles aswell. I like to think it hasnt been over heating because im sure it would have given in by now.
