I'm just back from picking up my Landy from MoT. It failed for two things - offside front discs scored and pads below min thickness which is fair enough I suppose, but the second item was that the bloody front windscreen washers don't squirt. They worked well enough when I overtook a tractor on the way there this morning! Hopefully it'll just be the fuse.

Typical. Absolutely typical.

Yep, can't hear the pump go, though the back one works fine. A mate is going to do the brakes tomorrow while I'm at work and I'll have a look at the washers when I get home in the afternoon.

Sounds like they were doing a bit of money hunting on the pads being below thickness.

I know when I've been to get MOTs done in Germany they test the brakes on a rolling road type test, if it passes that, they are good, if not, they aren't :)

Or maybe... i mean just maybe... they were following the rules of the Mot's?

Just because it passes on the rollers does not mean that it is safe.

hey there, according to the mot rules.. its a failure if.. 'a brake lining or pad insecure or less than 1.5mm thick at any point'.. 1.5mm is pretty thin..

To be honest compared to many pepoples mots that seems pretty good, pads and disks are a pretty easy fix. Even if its not the fuse thats gone, it shouldnt be too hard to fix the jet wiring, and if need be just run a new feed to them for the test.

ollie

Driver's side pads and disc were scary-thin (*no* friction material on the pads) but both sets were replaced today thankfully. Won't ever fall into that trap again, I doubt they would have lasted much more than a couple of weeks before failing spectacularly. Windscreen washer was simply a loose connection under the bonnet, which just needed a poke so that's sorted too. Retest tomorrow hopefully...
