.....a 'How To' on a LPG conversion?
I have 2 weaknesses in my automotive enthusiasm....Range Rovers and 7'er BMWs (the E38 in particular).
After selling my previous 7'er at Christmas time, I have had a hankering for another, so I bought one...cheap!
It is a 1997 740i with the 4.4 M62 V8 (non-VANOS version - but in terms of the conversions it makes no difference) and I will be doing a LPG conversion to it. Now I know it is not a Land Rover product, but the installation principles and process is generic, it is just the set up and some elements of the wiring that are different (although not wildly), and also as the 2002-2005 L322 is basically the same car as the E38, E39 and E53 anyone considering a conversion to their L322 will spot similarities.
There are lots of places that will tell you that it is illegal to do your own conversion....it isn't
There are lots of places that will tell you that only the installer can register the vehicle....not so (although it can only be registered by a member of the UKLPG trade association - but inspections of installations can be arranged)
The installation has to be carried in accordance with the LPG Code of Practice part 11 - so I bought myself a copy (£32 from the UKLPG trade association).
(Disclaimer part) Now my proposed 'How To' will not substitute a qualified installation, nor mean if you follow it religiously that your install will be considered safe...that is why it needs to be commissioned and set up by a trained technician following the DIY installation....the 'How To' will document and illustrate what is done for the LPG installation. !! YOU MUST ALWAYS GET THE INSTALL PROFESSIONALY CHECKED BEFORE FIRST USE !!
Now by simple Yes, No or Why Bother please answer the poll above!!
