Series 3 Are We going to see anymore historic vehical tax changes in the next budget

Its a 40 year rolling tax exemption in force at the moment! Just hope it stays that way
Your V5c is not automatically changed , you have to tax it first ( you pay nothing ) then the post office send your v5c off to DVLA for that all important HISTORIC title

my old smoker is tax free and lez exempt wouldn't scrap it, I doubt any scheme would be sufficient compensation to scrap say an original 2l s1 diesel.

can't see why it can't be automatic, mot exemption went through automatically
 
The scheme at the moment is NOT rolling (which I'm sure the OP knows)

The old 25 yr was, iirc, rolling, but, as it is at the moment, every budget states "Vehicles registered before 1st Jan..." and then the year changes each time. So a) its not automatic, and b) if your truck is dated, say, September, as my 101 is, I'll have to wait till the budget comes out (is have to tax until then) rather than just to September of the previous year, as would be the case if it were 40 yr rolling.

As for if it will change next year? We have a conservative government, who, generally, work in the interests of the rich. Who are the people with large collections of classic cars? Not those living in rented accommodation, that's for sure...

I, personally, don't expect it to change.
 
I'm sorry to disagree Julian BUT thats simply NOT true !!
BUDGET 2014 clearly included a rolling 40 year tax exemption for classic cars from April the 1st EACH year .
I think you must be quoting BUDGET 13 which stated that it would only involve the once
Check the Government website for further clarification

PS last year my 73 MGBGT became exempt
This year my 74 Landy became exempt

that was my understanding too, one off one year then made rolling the next year
 
A couple of months ago, i went through the whole "build records from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust" with a view to age related plate, with a view to tax exemption, etc.

I spoke, at length, with various different departments, and what i stated was what i was told.

I wont argue as to if its right or wrong, simply that, when i called the DVLA and BMIHT, that that was (my memory) of what i was told.

Id rather it were the other way, certainly, so id like to be wrong, but, as i say, its what i was told.

Its a simple matter to call the DVLA to be sure, however, as my 101 wont be 40 until next september, i, personally, wont be worrying about it too much till then! : )

Since the paperless tax disc palaver... there is a lot of whispers going around ...
Many people have failed to tax their vehicles and as ANPR catches up with them, I expect to hear of more vehicle cloning ...

Our newly accuired 1970 s11a will be tax exempt won't it ;)
 
I said i would not argue the point, but i was genuinely interested, so looked it up again....

that states that, every year, the budget will be updated to state exemption of vehicals manufactured before the 1st jan of the year 40yrs previous.

...which is what i was told.

If this is wrong, can someone link me to paperwork stating otherwise?


As i say, using my own motor as an example, it will be 40 yrs old in september, but it wont become tax exempt until the budget is released on the 1st April the following year.

Again, id be happy if i were wrong, as it save me a few pennies!
