Up **** creek.
Bought a set of these the other day and fitted them:

SUPER BRIGHT CREE LED XENON WHITE 6000K SIDELIGHT BULBS x2 T10 501 W5W WEDGE m9 | eBay

1st of all they were so big they didnt fit into the sidelight holes so I took out the main beam bulbs and tucked them in that way.

But MY GOD are they bright!

Im used to the little normal ones and compared to them they dont half give off some light!

Are they legal? what do you lot think?

dunno but a piccy of your old vs new in the dark (aimed at the road, not the the headlights) would be good :)

i likes me piccies :D

just went out to take one and I think I already know the answer. The pic looked like a star exploding! (looks worse in the pic, LEDs seem to with this phone). will try and upload it from my phone.

I may try to "dull" them down slightly or just buy some weaker ones like I have in my transit.

My phone wont let me do it, sometimes it does sometimes it doesnt, ####ing technology!

Shame really as its a friday night and everyone could probably do with a laugh.

Will keep trying but dont hold your breath mate. Sorry.

First off, sidelights aren't intended to illuminate the road ahead but as "positional indicators" as the regs call them, so I would say that ultra bright sidelights are totally unnecessary.

The only need for T10 bulbs that bright would IMHO for other purposes rather than sidelights.

I do use LEDs in my sidelights, but only the smaller non-Cree type; they produce an even white light inside the lens, brighter than the ordinary filament bulbs and quite adequate for the job.

The only place I do use Cree LEDs is in the reversing lights but only because normal LEDs weren't bright enough to illuminate the road behind while reversing.

I have noticed that those Cree LEDs do create some radio interference, probably due to the nature of the Cree circuitry.

Haha VERY!!!!!

Theres me on my knees in pain blinded from the light, with no hair and everything.

But if im being piccy, ive not got those wheels, mine are 5 spoke.

I give you 9/10.

Must try harder next time!

sorry about that, fixed

Yes they are but only in "type approval" light units more on that if you search the www.

I've had LED side lights for the last five years plus, and never had any problems with them, other than in the early days the LED drivers overheat so the LED flashes or they had a blue light which are not legal in sidelights or any other external light unless it's an emergency vehicle I believe.

When I get around to it I will be fitting DRLs even they should have a type approval but as mine came from China I doubt it :D

Cheers fellas last sat I also bought these:

Ford Transit 501 W5W LED Superlux White Side Lights Xenon ICE Upgrade Bulbs | eBay

and:

Xenon LED SideLight Bulbs 501 FORD Transit Connect | eBay

Why you may ask? because I was ****ed and needed a sidelight for the audi.

The superlux are fitted to my mk7 transit and look and work great, the 4 led ones are in the audi and look a little blue compared to the factory Xenon HIDs.

I may just buy another set of superlux for the landy and the audi.

Discool: I have a set of DRLs in the foglight apertures of my transit, since having kids I seem to always drive around with my sidelights on in dull weather, you never know when those little buggers may just run out in front of you! they are just safer all round.

They turn off when you turn your headlights on to meet the new legislation not to dazzle other cars at night.(coming in this year I think?).

Wonder if I told my insurance company they would knock a few quid off my premium (yeah right) as im now safer, good if they knocked off 20 quid as thats all they cost, free lights!

Off or dim as my DRLs will do is via the small relay size control box plus it's wiring loom all very neat with water proof connectors for each lamp, again purchased from China.

The connections are easy, just the battery supply plus earth and just a single wire connected to either the side light or headlamp dip circuit, which one I'll use, we will have to see.

If I don't like the dim function then the battery supply will become an ignition switch supply so a bit more work getting a wire into the dash fuse box.

Roll on a Saturday that's sunny. :D

These are my transit ones:

ROUND DRL 4 LED DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS FRONT SPOT FOG FORD ALL | eBay

And I bought a little relay thing too:

DRL Daytime Running Light Relay Harness Auto Car Control On/Off Switch 12V -A014 | eBay

And they look quite good fitted too (not my van mines silver)

https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=..._transit_van_and_motorhome_sept_06_on;650;650

I think im gonna wire it to my headlights so I can drive round with sidelights and DRLs on.

The proper tranny ones are nearly £400:eek:

Where abouts are you going to mount the lights, just below the headlamps, or in the bumper?

I like the idea of them just dimming instead, Im now watching that relay herness and may buy it its cheap enough.

Someone on here I think its sturox has got some cool lights, facelift disco2 on a D1 with an LED strip running along inside of them taking the contour of the lights, I would like them and use the LEDs as DRLs.

Think he modified them himself. very tidy job.

Just below on the spoiler, close to either side of the A bar so the wiring can disappear behind it and then into the engine bay. The spoiler is steel backed so I won't be drilling a hole for the cables to pass through although two very small holes will be required for the DRLs fixing bracket screws.

This is forward planning, It may change when I have had a better look on the day of installation, it would have been better if mounted in the centre in between the A bar and bumper-end cap and the wiring going straight through the spoiler at the back of the DRL. :D
