Just bought the front lamp upgrade for my D2 to change it to the 03 type lamps, ebay seller is quite specific that they are genuine LR parts, parcel arrived today, the headlamp units are Bearmach, no LR badge on them.

I'm not unhappy with the quality, but if it says genuine parts then I'd like them to be!

Thought it best to check first before opening my not so small gob!

Many thanks in advance.

I would say not , i ordered front mud flaps for a defender they arrived in a bag with a bearmach sticker on it , ther are no fitting brackets in the bag and the flaps are a couple of bits of cut rubber.

I went to buy some new mudflaps and the guy tried to sell me the bearmach ones. I know what you mean about cut bits of old rubber. They aint even cut very well!!!

yer say ye rhappy wiff em,would you have bin happy if it had a land rover sticker on it and was crap quality?

No, of course not.

The old style lamps on the vehicle now have the LR badge raised in the glass, I'm not unhappy with the quality and finish of the new lamps, but, if I paid for LR then I should get LR, they aren't the bargain they first appeared.

My hard luck I guess, it wasn't like I was scrimping as they did cost me £325, still considerably cheaper than Main dealer, but I'd rather have had the choice of either genuine or pattern, seems fair enough.

Thanks for the replies.

ah lot of 'genuine ' stuff is made by the same folk , in the same factory, using the same raw materials. the only difference is the label and the price.

i.e. valve shims fer a jag are identical to valve shims fer a less pricey car. they are made by the same folk in the same factory using the same metal only way to tell em apart is the label.

also landrover county brake flexis are the same as jag ones but hav a landrover county sticker on the bag and a landrover price ticket.

as fer a badge on a bit of glass;why? it just puts production costs up which YOU then have to pay for

"Genuine Parts" should come in a Land Rover box
OEM, Original Equipment Manufacturer. Made by the same people who make the Genuine Parts, but not packaged by Land Rover. Usually they will be in the manufacturers packaging e.g. Ferodo, Valeo or whoever. Should be identicle to the Genuine Part.
Pattern Part. Made by someone else to same specifications, hopefully. Usually a lot cheaper. Could be as good as, some times better than, the Genuine Part, or could be a load of s***.

If someone is selling you a Genuine Part, that is what you should get. The fact that the item is just as good as a Genuine Part is neither here nor there. It should be described correctly.

Genuine Parts can be a load of s*** as well, but generally they are OK, but sometimes overpriced.

Some Bearmach stuff is OEM, for example their caliper kits which are AP. The ****part ones are useless as the tin rings are the wrong section.

Often the Bearmach OEM parts have a G at the end of the part no.

The Bearmach 300tdi cambelt kit is better than Genuine because the crank pinion is forged and not the breakable LR spot-welded one.
