Anything obvious standing out about this Defender I might be buying?

Second ones ugly and the first screams ringer to me , id want to see build photos from original to finished and i'd still be sus about its true origins.

The guy that is selling the 2nd one is the same guy I bought mine from, he's pretty decent and usually has a lot of stock in his yard. He is just a dealer though so i dont know how much infor you would get from him around the build. He also screwed my v5 by getting my details and someone elses mixed up so i got a v5 for a disco instead of my fender and that did take about 3 months for me to sort with dvla. I don't think much of the looks on either though. If you have that kind of money to spend then get one built to your own spec

Wouldn't touch that with a barge pole, I'd rather spend another £7000 on my Defender and put a new chassis and bulkhead on it, the engine and dashboard in a 1991? Hmmmm
Also I personally never trust people who can't spell properly, if you spent £12k on a car you would at least know how to spell the parts you've bought, if you can't spell them, then you didn't do any of the work IMHO!

Thanks guys. From your recommendations I'm going to steer well clear of the first one. The more I investigate it the more dodgy it sounds.

I had to ask 4 times for the mileage. The guy said he thinks the RAC would take issue with the chassis and TDCi conversion - god knows why - and alarm bells really started ringing when the guy said he won't give me his address as he's "had people trying to find owt where I live". Whatever that means.

Inclined more towards the second one but could do with it having an alarm and immobiliser, central locking, a stereo and some seats in the back. Or failing that, go and get a custom build from Simmonites.

Simmonites is a good option mate, you'll have peace of mind that you have a genuine motor, and it's perfect if you have that much to spend :)

I was gonna say it earlier but knew he wanted more bling

Yeah but he could buy yours, add as much bling as he wants and it would still be cheaper than those horrendous examples on ebay......and it would be a genuine landie not a nicked bitsa.
