Anything obvious standing out about this Defender I might be buying?

Haha. Loving the spare wheel. Going to get you out of a lot of sticking situations that.

Dont look like a 91 to me .far too many odd parts and wasnt aware tdci dash would work with other configurations.:sly:

dunno, I'm always suspicious of rebuilt landies, why spend all that time and money on it to sell it? it's not been done for profit if it cost 12k to build.

caveat emptor!

Doubt that's a 91, if it is it should be Q plated now, air scoops look like ****.

It's also from the home of stolen Landies.

So nothing obvious so far other than general caution?

I just don't want to buy another dud.

Thing is, for a little bit more than this is gonna cost me I could get Simmonites to build me one and I'd feel a whole more secure about that.

What thread have you been reading?

LOTS of obvious issues! I would want to full details, reciepts, paperwork full checks, check chassis no, proof of where that Puma engine and gearbox assembly came from (engine no and gearbox checks) as that is a Puma under the paperwork of a 1991 - I'd say it is probably stolen.

Yeah, general caution like:

1. Is that really a private plate?

2. Have they got a receipt for the chassis / engine g'box etc?

3. does it need an sva / to be on a Q plate as no part of it looks like a '91?

4. It's in S Yorks and as has been said before it is the home of stolen landies!

5. Why did they build it to sell for a loss?

and oh yeah it looks like ****. I wouldn't touch it.

I would imagine RAC would probably just check the mechanicals etc.

If you want it, go and see it, take a torch, notepad and pen, and get from it VIN no from chassis and plate (do they match up) gearbox and engine no's. and ask to see reciepts for the work. Look at the V5, what engine no is on it, does it even match up? Phone the DVLA with all these details and tell them you want to know if all the parts are legit as you are about to buy it but suspect some foul play.

I would also want to know about the old parts of the 1991 Landy it claims to be.
