has anyone tried running their disco on heating oil ? it is about 50p a litre and a mate has been using it in his shogun. Are there any legal/tax implications too ?

It will be fine. Until you get your tank dipped and they crush your car and slap you with an estimated bill for evaded duty since you've owned the vehicle. Could be thousands. Plus a nice fine.

I've heard of people running it  but it can be thicker than standard diesel (especially if its been in a tank a while). So pre-heat if you can in the same way as veggie oil. In theory you will have to pay duty on the fuel you use though so that makes it uneconomical. IMHO use waste veggie oil (WVO), it's generally free to collect and easy to filter.

oh and don't forget to add cetane to your fuel, heating oil does not have to go through the same ignition quality checks as diesel and may have a very low rating.

just add a bit of petrol ( about 5% ) to your veggie, runs lovely.

Heating oil will run fine but in the long run is it worth getting your car crushed and a feckin huge bill for back duty?

my mate just moved into a house and has a full tank of heating oil and he is running on it in an old M reg escort, 3 week and no problems for him, but he only paid about £300 for the car so not a big lose if it goes tits up !!!!

fair enough if you don't give a **** about the car being crushed but they will slap you with a bill for fuel duty for every mile the car has done since you owned it.

Your looking for this type of stuff cetane booster. Cheaper at the tesco's of the world or your local auto supplier. I use the Wynns stuff though.

Oh and you don't need the stuff if your using Bio Diesel as it generally has a higher cetane value than standard diesel!

Sorry to hijack the thread a little, but whats the difference in Bio than running 50/50 with veggie, as off to France soon, and they have Bio on most pumps, so should I just fill up with this?

Depends on your engine type - 200/300tdi run fine on waste veggie oil (WVO) or bio-diesel, or any combination of the three. The only problems you are likely to get is when it's winter - where you can get gelling of the veggie oil and bio-diesel.

Running a 1996 300TDi auto, so looks like I will be ok going for the Bio instead of the diesel then :D

Will see how much it is at the pumps over there tho......
