Thinking about putting a hinge on the front and making my 109 safari into a pop top. Like a dormobile but so it lifts from the front rather than the side.
Just wandering if it's doable with some gas struts a hinge and some canvas.
Cheers

i would of thought have the anchor pins at the front ie your hinges and the struts on the back, have you ever removed gas struts from a hatch back car and then tried to lift the boot lid its feckin heavy, i dont think there would be an issue with weight on a safari top

An 88 roof is light, an 88 TROPICAL roof is feckin heavy. I can only imagine a 109 tropical roof weighs a ton. I vote dont try it!

I've removed a 109 tropical roof with sides attached and at a guess, I'd say they weigh about 30Kg ish?? if yu do it move the struts to the middle and have some sort of locking struts. AKA defender bonnet stays, to keep it up in the wind.

Right then. That's it. I'm gonna do it. Might use a normal roof rather than a tropical one for lightness sake tho.
