Hi all

my 2002 v6 is braking me
its got a multi misefire fault ,which inturn made it fail its MOT for high 02 at idle (test said cat is working fine)

ive checked for air leaks, pressure tested the fuel system, changed the fuel filter, changed the spark plugs, ohms tested the leads and coils but still can not found the problem

anyone have any other ideas please?????

Compression test.

I assumed you had already done one or would have suggested it sooner.
A sticking valve can also cause problems.

Whats its oil change history.

no not done one yet ,ive got one so will do one on tues (will have to take pullem off again  )

as for oil i have no idea i got car for spares as was a none runner

on compression test what kind of figures should it be getting ,and if one is low what are the poss courses?

A compression test should give around 175 Psi on each cylinder give or take 10%.
The engine looks like it's missed a few oil changes but the KV6 doesn't generally suffer sticking valves. This misfire is on random cylinders which effectively discounts one sticking valve. I've never heard of multiple sticking valves at random intervals on random cylinders.

Let's go back to basics. How long has the car been sat. I'm thinking that the fuel could have gone off.

Do you have access to hawkeye or similar? Hawkeye has a misfiring count on individual cylinders on v6. You could use this to see which cylinders are involved and when they misfire.

no i have no access to one all i have is my bluetooth reader and torque
as for the fuel thats been sat in the tank for a long ass time

may try some injection cleaner with a tank of new fuel

How long is a long ass time? Standard unleaded is well past its best at 3 months. Longer than that can seriously affect the way an engine runs.
Fresh fuel has to be tried before changing anything else.

last owner had it around 9 mnths without being able to get her to start ,and ive had her around 2 mnths now, came with i/4 of a tank

It's possible that your running issues could be fuel related. Year old fuel isn't really given it the best chance of running correctly ;)

would i be best to drain her? i cant drive her to fuel station so if i drained her and put say 20 lt in would it improve straight away if it is this or would it need a while to clear say injectors etc?

i could get some redex kind of stuff throw it as well if i put some new fuel in ,say one bottle to one tank ,but if one bottle in 20lt of fuel surely that will not harm anything will it?

im off again tomorrow so may do a compression test on first 3 cylinders ,if they are ok should i still that the pullem off and do the back 3

Personally I'd drain the old fuel and replace with fresh. There's no point in simply adding more to what's there as you will ruin the fresh fuel.
Once fresh fuel is added, a dash of Redex can't hurt.
I've just remembered, you've cut open the plenum haven't you. Are you 100% sure it's sealed? An air leak downstream of the throttle body can give similar running issues to what you have too.

i will have another look for a air leak but im stumped as where i cut to mod the pullem i

1. used a high end sealant to shut it
2. then plastic welded it shut
3.then ran more sealant over the plastic weld

then when car running i blow as much smoke as i could around the pullem to see if there was anywhere sucking the smoke in ,which there seems not to be

how about all the black pipes ? they never seem tight round the t piece joints ,would they suck air in ? i thought they are more engine breathers?

Old trick we used on carb manifold was a relatively non combustible fluid over joints to find small leaks
Were manifold gaskets replaced
