it's always good to have professional garages on forums, giving input

Just one question,

Does the customer know that you haven't stripped down one of these before?

Its easy!

Up top you need the battery box out, and disconnect clutch hydraulics. Underside you need the Undertray + Subframe off, driveshafts + coolant hoses/breather off, IRD out, bellhousing bolts out and the box comes out, pretty much :)

Flywheel torque is 140Nm
Clutch is 32Nm (I think, not any looser than that anyway)

Anyone had problems splitting rid from gearbox all bolts out and box won't move

If all 4 bolts are out, and the end support bracket is removed, then the IRD almost falls out on its own.

There are a couple of rare exceptions, where the input or output splines have stripped and jammed, or the IRD nose piece has corrosion trapping it in, but as the IRD and box are both alloy, this is very rare.

The one's I've taken off have come away easy.

As Nodge says, all the bolts, tie bar and bracket at the other end and the 4 bolts holding it to the gearbox/adaptor plate - plus remove the 2 coolant hoses and remove the drive shaft. Depending on engine, the exhaust.

I think someone the other day said it just fell out on them - which is dangerous for such a heavy item. I have mine supported on a jack when those 4 bolts are removed.

Edit : remove drive shaft from IRD, don't need to completely remove it from car.
