My better half is hopefully picking up a 57 freelander next week, but wants a reverse camera fitted, I've seen one that it integrated to the plate light housing, I thought it looked quite need but does anyone know the best way to run the cable from there to the head unit.

Gonna try and get all the bits ready for when it arrives.

I fitted one in that position but found it gives a lopsided rear view. The spare wheel hides a lot. I fitted mine into the rear bumper, right in the centre of the 'o' Land Rover which ic more centred. Still gives a view in that position.

I had one in my D3 before I sold it. I found it a pointless addition. The camera lense was very susceptible to dirt which blurred the image.
I disconnected it but left it fitted when I sold the car. PDC is much better for general parking I've found.
The cables route easy enough down the nearside cable tray.

I've fitted one in my 110 and it's handy specially when lining up the tow bar but that cable route was quite easy, but I've no idea where to even start looking in the freelander.

Hi Mcclegend, did you ever find out how to fit the camera and thus the wiring

Yeah. Got one fitted, a replacement number plate light cover with integrated camera, ran the cable inside the boot card through the cable gland at the top then down the passenger side under the roof lining down the a panel behind the dash to the head unit.

Fitted double din head unit with big screen choose one that would supply power to camera.

got reverse signal and hand break signal from under the centre console. Need a 10 meter video, power cable to run through the car. 5 meter cable isn’t long enough.

A few years since the last post, and this is my first, but thought it might come in handy. Fitted a reverse camera and screen to my FL2 today. Wasn't keen on removing the boot door liner, partly laziness, and partly didn't trust the plastic clips not to break.
I fitted the camera low on the rear bumper, one of the flush fitting push in types would work well, but I already had a little wedge type. On removing the rear light there is a route straight down into the bumper, so easy to send the camera power/video cable down.
The cabin is accessible from the gasket behind the light and by easing one of the plastic trims near the rear window forward (I was even lazier and used the vent behind the light, not really easier, just couldn't be bothered to go get a stanley)
Then it's just an easy run in the roof lining trim and up into the dash via the glovebox. I have the rustic edition, so a square cubby hole instead of a screen, so drilled a little hole in the side to feed cable in, and fitted a screen in front. Various places for a switched feed near the front if you had a screen with 'carplay' phone link, but most of the camera cables carry a live forward from the reverse switch, so that would power the screen and camera whenever you select reverse.
Using this route the cable supplied with the camera is more than long enough.
Hope this helps someone.
