Hi, I am after some info about fitting a 2.5 diesel engine from a frod transit into my Landy.
Apparently it is a pretty easy swap if you have the Milner conversion kit so the engine can be fitted to the LT77 gearbox.
If anyone has done this or knows how it is done and what is needed can you let me know.
Cheers

All the 200tdi engines i`ve seen for sale have done well over 100,000 miles or the adverts say engine did`nt smoke when it was taken out of vehicle. The prices they are asking are a bit extreme for the mileage. I know where i can get a ford engine with only 61,000 genuine miles for £350. So i believe the foed option is the most viable.

that milner conversion is gonna cost a good few quid and even at 150K a 200 is only just run in - there's plenty of 200s advertised still in the vehicle so you can try it before you buy

Have to agree with sean. 100k on a 200tdi is low mileage, 150 and there's still plenty of life left in it. I wouldn't buy a tranny with 150k on it.

dont know why you would even be considering this, a transit engine is slow at the best of times and like everyone else has said 200/300 tdi has to be the best option,i know the tranny engines are cheap but who know what problems you will come accross on the install, good luck tho whatever way you go

I've known a couple of people who've had tranny engined Landies. One who bought it as it was and took it out to put a proper engine in, the other who put one in himself but was well dissapointed with the performance. He reckoned it wasn't an improvement on the 2.5n/a performance wise and was exceptionally noisy even by LR standards.

Hi All

I'm new to forum and to land rover !

Just bought a 1987 110 CSW that has a ford transit 2.5 DI fitted. Very underpowered - particularly when trying to get up a hill.

I will be fitting 200 TDi when I can get one !

I have an 97 Ldv 3.5 ton van with ford tranny engine in it,very underpowered even when runnin light and less speed than a racin snake when loaded to the tits.

There will be many good reasons why Transit engines are cheap to buy at low mileages.

If you bought it for £350, I bet you will need to spend more than that again to make it fit the gearbox and mountings.

That not telling you something?

200tdi is good for 250,000 miles if it's had oil changed.

I bought my 200TDi lump with 78k on it for £400, best thing was it didn't need delivering as it came with a Discovery attached. Plenty to be had for sensible money if you are prepared to travel before resorting to that hateful lump.

Over the past 10 years i've had 9 transits, mostly recovery trucks, when i get the next one i'll be looking to fit a 200TDi lump into that not the other way round :D

I've got a 110CSW with the 2.5DI engine fitted (not by me). I'd say peformance is slightly better than the 2.5N/A, fuel efficiency around 30mpg and very reliable engine. With the conversion plate its probably also a bit easier to fit than a disco tdi lump due to the lack of turbo and other pipes/mods. But if you want to use your landy for everyday road use then tdi is the way to go cos its much quicker up hills and for towing, and you can hear your self think when driving along - beware, the 2.5DI is a noisy injin. If you live anywhere round kent give me a shout and you can pop round and decide for yourself.
